Isn't it interesting the way our minds will lock on to a memory of something like that. I have an uncle named Clarence and one of my main memories of him was that he always gave us a Chuckle's candybar when we were getting in the car to head home to Indiana. I can't see a Chuckle's without thinking about my uncle.Maryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02890796903959709429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-162042727452052782.post-2921901294971668232009-06-20T16:36:06.414-04:002009-06-20T16:36:06.414-04:00Cute post, Rose. She always made things from scratch ---but because I had never had any store-bought ones, I thought they must be BETTER. Ha--what a joke!!!!

My mother was an excellent cook (I did not get that talent from her) ---and I remember her cooking kale greens on the stove for hours. They had a weird smell while cooking ---and the flies would congregate at the back screen door--trying to get in. I guess flies liked that smell. The greens were good---but OH that awful smell!!!! ha

Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
BetsyBetsy Banks Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16223591156634767330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-162042727452052782.post-64184124662638418042009-06-20T16:16:10.640-04:002009-06-20T16:16:10.640-04:00I can definitely remember when store-bought anythi...I can definitely remember when store-bought anything was a treat. You could always count on getting the white powder all over you. :)
Back then it was mostly Coke for me and a bag of peanuts to throw in.
Like EG we kept the bottles to get refunds to buy penny candy at the store. To this day I can remember me and my brother sitting on the front porch of that store in old school seats drinking and eating before we walked on back home.Carlettahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11178161514195582965noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-162042727452052782.post-30765172258984830542009-06-20T13:36:58.462-04:002009-06-20T13:36:58.462-04:00What a nice memory, Rose. Not much money.

I remember when we lived in Phoenix - I was in high school - worked delivering papers and bought all my own clothes...Mom bought horse meat (without telling us) from FDA horse meat stores 'cause it was cheaper (also tougher!).

One day we had a special treat...Dad had just enough money for nickel ice cream cones so we walked to a little store and everyone got an ice cream cone. Our little dog, Buttons (whom my dad didn't like), came along and was jumping and begging for a lick. My dad waved his cone at the dog; the ice cream flew off and into Button's mouth! My dad was pretty frustrated as he didn't have another nickel for another cone.

Yikes!Lowellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15305748075301453010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-162042727452052782.post-11375902001790166242009-06-20T08:03:04.962-04:002009-06-20T08:03:04.962-04:00Back in time a little bit???? ... quiet a bit I th...Back in time a little bit???? ... quiet a bit I think. :) Those old stale donuts were such a treat even though you could break your teeth on some of them.Nealhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05153009268038849033noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-162042727452052782.post-37730927854665187372009-06-20T06:58:38.033-04:002009-06-20T06:58:38.033-04:00isn't it amazing the memories we have and hold...isn't it amazing the memories we have and hold on to??

For me it's the old ice chest soda machines!
