I was going to put the above picture in with my sky watch pictures but totally forgot. As you can see they finally came and cut down our trees. They came on Wednesday--a whole crew. There were 4 or 5 of them, and it took them about 6 hours. They did a pretty good job of cleaning up and though I miss them, I do not miss the worry when it storms.

I am only showing the one tree...I was a little emotional when they first started on the other tree. Just sort of sad to see them go, even though this is probably for the best. It will be less mess in the gutters, not all those seeds, no more close calls on vehicles that are not in the garage. Still, it is sad to see them go.
I was also kind of worried about how Mama Squirrel would react...I thought I might have to make a mad dash across the waters and adopt Hazel ...but not sure if Tom would be willing. Anyway, as you can see here she doesn't seem to mind in the least. This was the next evening...it was misting rain and she was all wet and bedraggled...but she is still my baby. Unlike Hazel, I cannot get her to set on me. But I really would miss her if anything happened to her. I would miss seeing her looking in through the back door looking for us...or miss seeing her come running when she realizes it is us.
Now, if I can just get the computer situation under control I talked about in an earlier post, I will be so relieved. But if you don't hear from me, you will know the reason why.

  1. I hate to see trees cut down, but theres times such as this that safety must come first.. I'm sure that Mamma Squirrel will be fine.. It only took 2 days for Hazel to train me.. peanuts, talking softly and no sudden movements, she also tought me not to make direct eye contact as well.. try it.. let her tame you.

  2. I know exactly how you feel about the trees. At our previous home in Virginia we lost three huge trees and had to cut another after a hurricane came through. I was standing inside watching one rock in the ground and foolishly wondered if I could do anything - watched it fall on and collaspe the pool! Storms are not tree lovers.
I love your squirrel. I have one but he isn't tame. I caught him looking in the patio door one day and Tom has given me hope that it might be possible.
This comment is getting way too long, so - great post and I'm outta here.....

  4. Rose,
Both you and Tom have taken great photos of your squirrels!

I bet the squirrel will get over the loss of your trees before you do.

Good luck with your computer problems.

  5. Yep I know what you mean about seeing the trees come down, I have two that are going to need to meet with the same end ~ but if it means safety it is a must do! Lots of fun things to see in your recent blog entries -- I have been trying to catch up! Keep up the good work, and hopefully that computer problem will soon be taken care of!

Yes, very sad to see trees come down, but certainly understand why.
