This is a barn I found several years ago...I have often wondered what its original purpose was.
Any ideas? I first thought maybe a horse stable, but the size of the doors confuse me. Were they for the groom to enter and the horse entered from inside the barn. And besides that, what about the opening above each door? Curious minds would like to know.
Also notice in the foreground of the first picture the water standing in the field. Seems like most of the farmer's fields have standing water somewhere. I am sure they are getting anxious about getting out in the fields.

What a great barn... I too would wonder what use it had, who worked there and how they lived.. Social history is a great way to learn.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of barn you have here, but I feel pretty sure the windows were used for venilation for the hay that was probably stored at the top of the barn. Usually there was room (stalls) at the bottom for the cows or horses.
ReplyDeleteI can remember playing in the top of a barn on the hay when I visited a girlfriend's home. We used to have so much fun up there.
Nice photos though.
What a neat old barn. You have some very nice photos here, you should come and join a few of the great sites Like Sky Watch Friday, and Mondays Odd shots.
ReplyDeleteI wiwh I knew what that barn was used for. I've been looking at that thin and trying to figure out what all the doors are for. I've even looked on Google to see if I can come up with anything....so far, nothing.
