A little bit of color from Illinois

After finding the round barn(s) I posted yesterday, we just took backroads to get back to Indiana. For the most part, Illinois is just so flat. I always wonder just how far I am actually seeing. Well, we were taking this one road, and it turned into rolling hills. And we found this state park/wildlife area. For the life of me I cannot remember the name. It really wasn't much of anything, except there were a couple places to pull off the road....I thought the sumac in the top photo was just so lovely...but it was midday so the lighting just about ruined all the pictures I took. So I will definitely be on the lookout for it in better lighting. I don't know what the plant/flower is in the bottom two but I think it quite lovely. These were taken in the shade so are better photos.

  2. I've seen the sumac berries growing around here. I googled and it says they are edible but I'll let you go first on that. (Better yet maybe Neal will try some hehe)

  6. The blue flowers are very pretty and I'm beginning to see summac around here, too. Always so startling in color where there is little else.

  7. These really are pretty flowers & the top one is called shumate? I've never heard of that before, nor have I ever seen it - and I'm not that far from you.

Thank you for stopping by today & leaving the comment about the web cam. I really wasn't sure about posting pics that I didn't take, but I guess there really isn't rules to this blogging thing - as long as I wasn't claiming the pics as my own!!!

  8. Rose, the photos of these flowers are lovely. My daughter was in school in Wheaton, Ill. for 3 semesters. Coming from the state of Washington she just couldn't get over how flat it was...

  9. Pretty flowers, and the Sumac is so pretty, makes me think Fall! Some years ago I had the experience of a Park Ranger/Naturalist creating what was similar to *Lemonade* from the Sumac -- it took lots of berries and I would NEVER ATTEMPT IT, my luck everyone in the demonstration would be horribly ill!! As far as the taste ~ after just having a sip, well lets just say I will continue to just drink Lemonade ;>)!

  10. My knowledge of flower names is pretty limited. These flowers are gorgeous though I don't know their names :P
