Churches...
The above is a church we ran across yesterday at Cross Village here in Michigan. It is so beautiful and so well crafted. One thing, we have seen several buildings made of local stone. Lots more than we ever see in Indiana, or Tennessee for that matter. This morn we went to Mackinac Island and the church below is one of the first things I noticed. I did not get any more pictures because we went up to the Fort Mackinac and spent almost the entire day there.Trinity Church was right near the entrance to the fort...I took pictures from street level as well as from up at the fort.
There was another church I seen in the distance but did not get to visit because we were running out of steam....

You are finding the neatest things! The churches are beautiful, especially the stone one. That side view is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI liked your post for yesterday but this stone church is my favorite post of yours - ever - it is magnificent! Maybe not ever - but certainly right up there.
ReplyDeleteI am jealous right now. :)
Well done.

I'm particularly enjoying this series of photos! I haven't been to the Straits or the Island in decades; used to go every summer in the 50s when I was a kid. My grandparents lived in the UP, and we'd drive up for vacation. Quite a few of those trips were before the "Mighty Mac" bridge was built, and I can remember sitting in the hot car (before AC) for hours waiting to get on the ferry. It could get so infernally hot that we took to driving up to Gaylord, getting a room, then get up at the crack of dawn, to start lining up when it was cooler.
ReplyDeleteAll of those churches look so quaint and sort of "New England"! Love them! Around here if it isn't brick, it is Indiana limestone. We did see a lot of that up around the Bedford area. That stone one is really beautiful! I think small churches like this have so much more charm than the huge mega-churches that are so popular now.
ReplyDeleteI love that stone church! So picturesque as is all of Mackinac Island.
ReplyDeleteThe churches are very photogenic!
