A little this and that

This morn it snowed and sleeted for just a little while. I actually was beginning to think we might get a good dusting, when it quit. Then my daughter wanted to know if I wanted to run to Walmart with her...we took a little detour on the way there and back. And after we got back, Roger and I went back out to the 'detour.' By detour, I mean the strip pit area where several of my photos have come from this past few months.
I did not get the images I wanted either time..not good images. So will go back and try another day. But I did get these. I feel like this vulture is looking over his shoulder say, "Hey, you want to come over to my place?" I don't know why, but that is the first thing I think when I look at it.
Anyway, I would estimate that 95% or more of the trees in this area are bare...just one with color every now and then. When we were over in Paris, going down a street where there was no place to park, there was one tree that was almost a red as brilliant as the barn in the last picture.
At the local strip pit, most of the moss was gone, but there were still these lily pads. When I first got close, there were lots of bubbles coming to the top..we wondered was a turtle down below or what.
As for this barn, it really is this color red. I did not alter this picture anyway. It is a color red that will about knock your eyes out in real life. And notice the mower in the foreground...when I was a kid we had one of these that was for horses.

  1. I must say that this is a definite diverse group of shots. You need to go back and take a shot of the barn after a big snow. You can take Carletta with you since she loves the snow. :)

  2. I agree with Neal that the red barn will stand out even more ain white snow.

You may nt have gotten all the shots you wanted but you sure got some good one. ;-)

  3. Nice selection of this and that!
I like the first shot throught the colored leaves.
Since the barn has a new garage there I bet someone is trying to preserve that little barn by keeping it painted. It is bright.

I see Neal's comment. I have two inches of snow today. I think you should come over, we should make snowballs, and then find Neal! :)

  4. Brrr! It's chilly here, but no precipitation, and the high is supposed to be in the 50's. Not too bad for November.

I like your photos, Rose, especially the vulture. I don't think I've ever before seen one sitting, just those circling in the sky.

  5. An interesting series of your detour area. I like the vulture shot very much. The variety adds interest... especially that glowing red barn. That is some paint job! Nice post.

  7. Great series - the vultures are gone from here now, and I miss them, I love to see their beautiful soaring V's, and get more excited to see them in the spring than robins.

  8. I think I'm farther south than most of the blogs I follow because i keep reading on everyone's pages that their trees are bare - the leaves are just beginning to fall here. A lot of people are even getting snow, like you said, snow & sleet where you are in Indiana. I'd like to get some snow, it just doesn't happen very often here. It's actually suppose to get down to 27 here tonight & to US, THAT'S REALLY COLD and very early in the season too!!!

  9. Great pics Rose! Yikes on that Vulture looks like he is one angry bird, did you interrupt his hunting? We had a dusting of snow today, our pretty leaves are gone!
