????

Earlier month during a drive over in Illinois, we came across these buildings...they were near the railroad. I have no clue what the round one would have been used for, do you?
If it had not been so cold and the wind so piercing, that was one time I would have been tempted to trespass and at least glance inside the round building. I don't know if we could find it again or not.

  2. How unusual. I'd love to know what it is. Could it be some type of fort?

  4. That is a very unusual looking building. I can't image how they put a roof on this either. It makes a fine mystery image...well shot!

  9. Mike thinks it looks like a silo of some sort...probably lost the top. It's next to a small barn, isn't it? Very odd looking whatever it is! A really great find! Glad you got a photo. Hope you find it again some day in better weather.

  10. I think it is a tile kiln and maybe also used for brick making. It looks like the field tile kilns I have seen around here where I live. The chimneys should be nearby unless this one used the holes at top to draw the heat up and through the stacks of bricks or tiles. I am not sure of course and wouldn't bet on it.

  12. Great find, Rose. My first thought was it might be a kiln for firing bricks. Then I saw Abraham's post. I bet that's what it is. ;-)

  13. I was thinking kiln too as soon as I saw it. I know I've been somewhere and seen one. I'll ask Hubs in the morning.
It would be cool to look inside.
Wonder if it's just been left to stand there and decay - sad.
