Remember I showed you the beginnings of a hornets nest in my back yard here? Well, I quit seeing any activity a while back. I didn't really know what to think...I thought I saw one or two hornets at different times, but never could see any when looking up in the hole.
Two or three weeks ago we were sitting on the front porch with Lorelei, and Roger noticed this out in the crab apple. They are active there....not sure, but thinking about getting rid of it just because of Lorelei. I hate to tear it down...but it is so close to the house that I think we need to do something.
That's one of the most extravagant nests I've ever seen; almost a natural heart-shaped. I understand your trepidation about leaving it up, but removing it could be dicely, too!
ReplyDeleteIt looks a little like an elephant, too.
ReplyDeleteI think getting rid of it is a good idea - she doesn't need to be stung!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE MAPS TOO! Once I start looking, I can't stop - it's like a drug! hehehehe
A nice close up of this nest. Better remove it when to reduce the risk of Lorelei or others being stung.... especially when you don't know how she might react to a sting.
ReplyDeleteEW! Yes, I think you need to get rid of that wasp nest. Wasps bite for no reason at all.
ReplyDeleteIf it were a bees nest, I say keep it because they rarely sting people...only when cornered. Wasps, on the other hand, are vicious!
I hate hard choices! Cool nest.
ReplyDeleteIs she allergic?
Our neighbor got some spray that you use after dark to kill them. Not sure if then you could save the nest. I wouldn't want that near Lorelei.

Rose: I hope you got it down. Hornets are mean buggers and attack witout provacation.
