What a difference rain makes!

As I mentioned on Time Stand Still, this afternoon we retraced just a short portion of the drive we took Thursday. This is Brouillete's Creek which starts over in Illinois and empties into the Wabash River in Indiana north of Terre Haute and south Clinton
This is close to the same view, except I was under the bridge taking the bottom one today. Notice how high the creek is compared to the first picture...I did not realize we had had this much rain.

But the thing that really caught my eye and actually surprised me was the total absence of any gold on the trees. This bottom photo actually cuts off part of both trees that are at the edges in the top, yet limbs from both trees are actually in the photos. The tree that is so yellow on the left side did not have hardly any leaves left on it. And the one on the right edge is almost as bad.

You can see the differences much better if you enlarge the photos.

That's quite a difference in the two photos and a lot more water.

I'm starting to see more tree limbs here too. Leaves are floating down off the trees in many places.

Fall is hitting - I love this time of year and even winter (the bareness adds its own beauty to photos).

The two shots show a remarkable difference in amount of leaves and the color is very subdued in the last shot. The higher water in the stream seems to indicate that the soil is saturated so most of the rain ran off into the streams.

Very interesting observations. And very beautiful photos. If you've been waiting to do something when the creek rises, you'd better do it now!

Heh. Heh.

Rose: Amazing captures of the swallon creek, nice timing.

Pretty pretty pretty--and WHAT a difference in water level.

That ol' rain will not only make the creek rise but will knock all the leaves off the trees. We needed the rain here and we got it---all at once too. Our creek was non-existant and the pond was so low I wondered where the fish went but the rain did bring the pond up but not the creek--yet.

Pretty shots. MB

It doesn't even look like the same place!
I just realized that bloglines isn't showing me when you make a new post. I don't know what is wrong.

We've had quite a bit of rain this year as well. We finally have some sunshine today.
