By the side of the road

On a drive a few days ago, we came across this by the side of the road...probably at least half a mile in any direction to a house. I just had to take a photograph of it. I thought it kind of neat.

I am trying to get back into some sewing...and I want to explain something. When I say I am designing a quilt I probably shouldn't use the term designing. I am almost always just playing with the arrangement of colors...so I don't know if that qualifies as designing. A better term would be to say that I am planning my quilt maybe. Anyway, I didn't want someone to think I was that talented.

I completed 6 little blocks, have some others half made and during making the first two blocks earlier in the evening, I made the same mistake 2 or 3 times and had to do the froggy dance....rip-it, rip-it, rip-it....rip the seam out. It is very satisfying to sew. There is nothing like hearing my sewing machine or hearing the shutter of my camera! It is very soothing to my soul.

I think I will head back down to the basement here in a second...I just came up to do this post before I got too tired. I want to post a photo on my other blog also.

  1. I like that little vignette. It is definitely me.
I think you'd say you were designing a quilt. You choose the color, the shape of the block, are they the same or different....
    you're designing.

  2. Your statement about doing the Froggy Dance made me laugh outloud, Rose.

To ME (who doesn't quilt), you are DESIGNING a quilt... Awesome!!!!

That picture peaked my curiosity... Wonder if someone used to live there --and someone else is remembering that place/person???? Interesting.

  3. A very interesting roadside commemoration. A fine shot of someone's effort to make a person/event remembered. Nice one.

  5. I like it when people decorate an unused spot or may be it is a remembrance of someone. Neat anyhow.

Great pictures of Lorelei. she sure is a dimpled cutie. All my kids (now adults) have dimples---there Father did and I don't. Kylee who lives with me--grandaughter--does too.

  6. A very interesting scene, it makes me wonder if it's a tribute to someone or just an artistic endeavor.

I agree that you are designing a quilt, the choices you make will determine the final product. I love the froggy dance, I will remember that next time I rip out a seam.

  7. There has to be a story behind that memorial you came across. It certainly is interesting and your picture is beautiful.
I have to agree that it sounds as if you're designing a quilt.

  8. I used to sew a lot so I agree it can feel so good. Now my creative energies seem to be consumed with photography and gardening. Maybe I'll get back to sewing one day. ;-) I enjoy hearing about your quilts!

  9. Nice little roadside place. Look forward to seeing what you quilt! I'm always designing quilts in my head or on paper, but don't get them made....frustrating. I started a new little project last night when I have several little unfinished projects already. I seem to work in fits and starts unless I had a real purpose in mind for a quilt. My class was both helpful and frustrating. I have trouble getting the rhythm of the free motion quilting...either move my fabric too fast or get the speed too fast..can't seem to get them together, but need lots of practice since I see the possibilities of things I want to do now.
