Cold and colder still....

These were taken last week...and it was cold then. But not the bitter cold that it has been the past few days. It is 9º as I type this. On this day some of the bigger icicles were actually melting.
These were taken near Fallen Rock Camp Ground...so you can see where it got its name. It is east of Highway 59, south of Mansfield a couple roads.
The cats go out but don't stay long. Mother cat only tries to go out about once a day...but before I can shut the door she whirls around and runs back inside.
The birds are really going through the food and Mama Squirrel and three others help them. Even with the nuts and handfuls of sunflower seeds I put out for the squirrels they get under the birdfeeders and hunt for all the drops.
***********
I am slowly cutting 6 inch squares of fabric to make a quilt top. I just have the urge to sew and not sure what I want to sew. If I would go down and work steady I would have enough cut in no time. I think I need 240, give or take a few....and I have 150 cut. With rotary cutters and rulers, it really doesn't take much time. Even in this, the time consuming part is deciding which fabrics to use.

I was just going to use mainly fabrics that were in the dark blues, dark reds, and tans but have been introducing other colors along. I only cut two square of each fabric, so by that you can guess I have a lot of fabric. I probably have enough to just cut one square of each fabric, with no two alike....I have been building a fabric stash for a long, long time.

  1. It's just amazing how nature works when that temperature hits down like that, it's a brand new world, so pretty outside and you definitely captured here!! What awesome photos indeed! I just love those icicles... whoa! We are going through a bit of a warm weather but as I type, there is snow falling but not bitterly cold as of yet but the winter is still young.
    Happy New year, my friend!
    Hugs and kisses♥

  5. A series of beautiful shots, Rose. It is cold here, too, for Florida - mid-20s last night! Have to keep the pool pump running at the old house!

Hope you've gotten things all sewn up by now! ;-)

  6. I like the icy looking shots... and that huge boulder is amazing at the side of the road! That is some level of cold you've had. We had almost 40° yesterday, but freezing weather is on its way in a day or two. It was so springlike it was hard to believe it's the first of January!

  8. Oh my goodness, it's sooo cold here too! it was 8 on my way to work this morning & I'm scared to death to see my electric bill. but, that's one bill that HAS TO BE PAID if I wanna stay warm!
I don't blame mother cat for whirling back inside - I feel so sorry for outdoor critters during the winter! Such a shame

  10. It's cold here also, Rose. It's 16 right now--and supposed to go down to 7 tonight. We have no snow though --other than flurries. But--George posted some ice this morning on his blog.

Great pictures. Is that your hubby out there in the cold without a jacket???? Woooooo---makes me shiver just looking at him!!!!

Whatever quilt top you make, I'm sure it will be gorgeous...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  13. I'm having a hard time blogging too. I went out to feed the birds after work tonight and had to come in to warm my hands and change gloves. It is crazy cold around here, no more than 5 above zero.
