Flapping in the wind...

All the Amish homes I passed the other day had their clothes hung...so I suppose Monday is their wash day. I wonder how it would be to have such simple things like what day you do your wash decided for you..and does anyone ever wash on another day. Or is it that they just happened to wash on the same day. I have read though where the day is set by the particular order one belongs to...
********************
I plan to have some clothes flapping in the wind in a bit...it is cloudy and cold, but I don't think we are going to get any rain or light rain and snow mix as was predicted! This is kind of hard to take after having several days of shirt-sleeve weather. But as long as warm days are just around the corner, I will deal with it. The house was 64ยบ this morn, so had to kick the heat back on.

We haven't had breakfast yet...just coffee. Much of the time we are not hungry when we first get up and will fool around an hour or two before we even think about eating; looks like today it is going to be even longer.

ETA: Just hung up my clothes and there were just few little snowflakes. Just saying...saying I am ready for winter to be done!

  1. What a wonderful image. I wonder what happens when it rains on Monday. I hope there is a plan B!

  2. Oh my. Hope the snows don't really develop.

I'm like you. Have several cups of coffee while i read blogs and then only after a few hours am I ready to eat. Life of luxury allows it - if I was a working gal right now, I'd have to stuff down some cereal and run out the door...

Love the clothes lines. Scheduled days, eh? Wow...

  3. I always like to see wash hung out--it is evocative of old times--but my husband refuses to let me hang ours out--I used to hang mine out when I lived alone, if it was nice out (I had a dryer) as a sort of meditation--I hung them in the trees. (on ropes).

But it also has negative connotations--airing the dirty laundry and all. Underwear showing, and so on.

  5. That's a lot of laundry! I love clothes on the line, especially sheets of course. :)

  6. Hi Rose, My mother always washed on Mondays and ironed on Tuesdays... When George and I moved up here in our retirement home, I changed my washday to Thursdays... I've kept it that way ever since. It just seems to work better for us and our schedule... Oh Well...

It's cool here today also --and we have a FROST watch for tonight... Grrrrrrr.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  7. I love seeing the Amish yards with their clothes flapping in the breeze. I'm guessing that they do things on certain days. I wish I could hang clothes out...I'm still waiting to get some lines put up so that I can.

  8. We weren't Amish, but my mother always washed on Monday. The week just seemed out of kilter if the laundry wasn't done then.
    I like your photo.

  10. Great picture, and I also saw wash blowing on the line at an Amish farm just a few miles from my house, made me feel like I should hurry home to put my wash out...it was the end of the day *unfortunately*! We are surrounded by Amish and yes they seems to hang their wash out on certain days (all of them on the same day)...must be their planned time!

  11. It is a rare sight to see clothes hanging out to dry ... maybe you see more of that in the rural areas.

I always thought they smelled better if the dried on the line.

But who wants to go to all that trouble any more?

    Nice shot!

  12. My Mom always washes on Monday. Me, I wash when I need to or when the mood strikes. :)
I would guess the Amish wash according to the order.
We didn't have snowflakes but it is way colder. Supposed to be down to the 20's tonight. I'm with you -it needs to be done.

  14. That picture sure brings back memories. I used to help mom hang the clothes on the clothes line sometimes and would run and get them sometimes especially if it looked like it was going to rain.

  15. We thought spring was getting close here as well - but, alas, it snowed another 8 to 10 inches the other night - today is about 24 degrees with a cold east wind. I'm sure spring is just around the next corner. LOL

  16. I vaguely remember a song from my youth that spelled out what chore is done on what day. Monday was wash day; Tuesday was ironing; and so on.
