This poor bridge has seen more than its fair share of troubles...it was burned down in April of 2005.....and the whole thing rebuilt by a community of volunteers by October of 2006. You can read about it here....
A couple of weeks ago, give or take a day or two or three, we had some real storms and some tornadoes go through. Guess what...one hit the bridge...it took out some of the sides on both sides. We had heard about it but not had the chance to go by till day before yesterday....
The old mill also had the roof taken off and had some water damage to things inside...as you can see they were getting ready to re-roof the day we were there.
It was officially classified as a tornado that hit there....thank God it was not wide spread. There were places were there were lots and lots of trees down...I cannot imagine seeing acre after acre of stuff just destroyed as those in Joplin, Missouri.
even with the damage, you can still appreciate the charm of these places. :)
ReplyDeleteEven with the damage the bridge looks great. I love how the water is flowing underneath it like that. I'm still looking and waiting for a covered bridge, not too many around here...or for that matter any :)
ReplyDeleteTornadoes have been terrible this year! I hope the cleanup and fix-up will be relatively easy!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pictures, even with the damage! Is that a damn it is sitting on?
ReplyDelete'Tis a gorgeous bridge...and it certainly has had its share of trouble. So glad it is still standing. The damage appears to be fixable. And the mill, too.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting and well done post, Rose!
That's a nice bridge - a lot of character. Glad the damage wasn't too extensive.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very pretty bridge. Indiana has such charm! I agree about Joplin. It's unimaginable.
ReplyDeleteHi Rose! Re your comment on Florida Fotos: the little kite flyer is our granddaughter...I think she was about 5 years old then...she's now 9, going into fourth grade and is smarter than her parents and her two brothers and knows it!
ReplyDeleteI remember this bridge from your previous posts.
ReplyDeleteThankfully, there doesn't seem to be structural damages. It looks like just missing siding. I'm glad they are already repairing the mill. Hope not much was lost inside.
WoW! What a beautiful place... I hate it that the tornado hit it, but thank GOD they're restoring it!!! =)
ReplyDeleteHave you been inside either one? Love to take a tour!
I've been hearing about lots & lots & lots of people going to Joplin to help rebuild... such a tragedy & it brings tears to my eyes every single time I think about it!
There's been so many tornados all around me this year. thank God none have been directly in our area. But a lot of big trees have been blown over. There was one tree that killed two ladies. They were driving down the road and the tree fell on them. What are the odds of you getting killed that way. It has been scary. I didn't used to be afraid of storms, but now every time it's going to rain....I begin to wonder. I love the covered bridge. Hopefully it can be repaired again!
