Another hot one here in the midwest....

This is from out at the strip pits...I think it is a type of thistle but not positive. I am not wading out in the weeds to find out for sure. I liked the way the evening sun lit it from behind.

I am not positive, but I don't think we hit the three digit area of the thermometer today....the highest I saw was 99.4º. That was hot enough...it felt as if we were walking out into an oven when we went to the library. And let me tell you, it was a busy place. It is always busy, but I did wonder if people had come in there to keep cool.

When I ran out to the strip pits, it felt at least ten degrees cooler, and the thermometer on the car said 88º. It was nice to be out and hear the birds singing...and I saw several deer. I did not see the owl again....next time I will either go a bit later or else stay just a bit later. I had to turn the lights on as I left the place, but I still think it would have been better to be out there a little later.

  2. Love the lighting in your photo. There's just something about evening light. We just got back from a little drive in the country too...beautiful sunset and evening. Saw a few deer, birds, and cattle!

Sorry you didn't get to see the owl again --but it sounds like you had a good time...

Hope this horrible heat ends SOON.

  5. These thistles remind me of marshmellow creme with loads of chocolate chips sprinkled on top and caramel syrup drissled around the edges. (I've been wanting somthing chocolaty all day!)
Pretty picture. Hope you can see your owl and get a photo---would love to see it. :>)

  8. Lovely! It's hot here, too. I feel like I might melt everytime I go outside...which is seldom! The humidity is so bad.

  10. Looks like the seed heads of Canada thistles to me, Rose. I'm glad you survived another hot one.

It was only in the low 90s here today and it's much cooler now. West of here is under a tornado warning but we are not...at least for now. Crazy weather!

  11. stinking hot here as well, as EG Wow says Saturday was a bit cooler, but still hot. I live around 30 to 40 minutes west of her.

My hydro bill wasn't too bad since the changes, however I dread what July's bill will be as the a/c has been on a lot during the peak period.

  13. It makes me think walking through that field in the heat would leave you looking furry!
