We saw this crop duster just a couple or three weeks ago but I didn't have a chance to get a good photo....it did remind me of Petty Coat Junction, the TV show. Does anyone else remember it? The youngest of the three girls, Betty Jo, marries this Steve, and if I remember correctly, he flew a crop duster. If he didn't, why does it pop into my mind every time I see a crop duster?
I posted a couple of good pics over on Time Stand Still, but saved these for here. He was dusting a field and on one end of the field would turn around right over us...or practically over us. Well, we were turning around to leave, and here he came again...
this time he did a pass each way on the field right next to us. I felt sure he was doing it just for me. He was low enough to see me, have no doubt of that. (No, I could not see through his windows because of the glare of the sun!) I wish I could thank him/her for the pass.
I feel like I wasted my opportunity because not a single one of those photos are as good as it should have been! I wish I could thank him/her for at least giving me the chance to try. It was a really nice highlight for the day.
If you haven't seen it done, it is hard to imagine how low they come....it is as close as it looks in these photos! Talk about taking nerve and talent...you would really have to keep your mind on your job!
these are all great! any closer and you'd have been pesticided! :)
ReplyDeleteNice job on the shots. Not a thing wrong with them. Good work!
ReplyDeleteI loved that show!
ReplyDeleteI always wanted a Steve. :)
Pretty good shots I think.
Great pics! I live near rice fields and a couple of times a year I see the crop dusters out. The fields are right next to the freeway. I swear whoever is flying likes to dive bomb the drivers on the ground.
ReplyDeleteI sure do remember Petticoat Junction. ;) I could say I saw the reruns, but I have to admit I saw them the first time, too. :) Very nice images.
ReplyDeleteI have not thought of Pettycoat Junction in a while! I love these photos and the old tv memories. Enjoy your Saturday.
ReplyDeleteYes! Steve was the crop duster. The pretty, glamorous sister dated the hunky steve first but then Betty Jo ends up with him after they have so much fun since she is the tom-boy and does stuff like mechanics. The older sister didn't mind at all because she wants to go to hollywood and become an actress and didn't want to stay with steve. Yes, I remember too well.
ReplyDeleteYour crop duster photos are good and good reminders of the show and of my college days next to cotton fields which were regularly dusted.

It was nice of the pilot to give you a chance to get these pictures. I have always been amazed at how low they fly. It gets rather exciting when there are trees at the end of a field.
ReplyDeleteI think these are very successful shots even if you are not totally pleased with them. This is a very dangerous occupation…you are correct: inattention or getting careless is not permitted!
ReplyDeleteI never thought about flying so low taking such skill. But of course you are right! I learned something here!! The plane is very pretty with the yellow and blue. I don't know if your pictures could have been better, I have taken many pictures of planes in flight, and it's not that easy! Good job!!
ReplyDeletegreat photo's...i see these fly overhead when i am floating, on my raft, in the pool!! it's quite the view!!!
ReplyDeleteLook great to me! An excellent opportunity for something unusual.
ReplyDeleteThe photos capture the flight really well. You're right about flying low taking concentration. I hadn't thought about that before! Just as I wish some photos had scratch & sniff, I wish these photos had a little sound card. :)
