Country critters....

Remember I went to the strip pits the other evening and saw 10-12 deer? Well, the next evening, Roger and I were coming home from the super Walmart in Paris, and decided to swing through there. It was really getting late...just almost dark. We saw a couple of the owls right away...both not even close to being within distance for the camera. We eased on along, not seeing anything for a bit...then we started seeing deer.

By the time we had passed all the way through, I am sure we saw probably 25 deer, at least. The last place we saw them was just as we left the place. I could determine some were bucks, but couldn't determine the size of their racks due to it being so late and almost dark and they happened to blend in with the background so well.

I could see this fellow, though...but it was still too late for my camera to get a good capture...this was totally black till I hit the button 'auto levels' in photoshop elements. With that being said, I hope he shows on your computer.
These two country cats we saw while on a drive the other day...the black one ran across the road in front of us...he kept watching the one below.
Soon, we were stopped to photograph a barn...and in front of that barn was a pasture.
This horse was one of I don't know how many....I am not saying there was a lot...just saying all I saw at first was him and another one, but as we went on I saw at least a couple more. I think they are all much loved horses, cause they kept nickering to me...and this one started up the hill two or three times, convinced that I had something for him. How I wish I had...

I spent over three hours in the basement yesterday...doing laundry while I messed with my sewing. I did some more cutting and sewing....so much fun. It makes things feel back to normal for me. I want to go down in a bit and see what else I can do....

I have been cleaning off a desk...does anyone else have clutter control problems? I sure do. Seems like I have so much stuff I want to keep, or maybe just afraid I will need it.

Then there is the problem of books...even though I have went through my books till I just have just kept my very favorites, I still have plenty. I keep debating on whether I want to buy new books for my kindle or buy kindle editions of my favorites...I did buy the kindle edition of Giants in the Earth by Rolvaag. When Roger and I got married, he had an old copy of it...I finally got around to reading it and it is one of my favorite books of all time. I read it every few years.

I look at it as I can buy stuff I am not sure I will like, or I can buy old favorites that I know I will enjoy reading again.

  1. Hi Rose, Sounds like you had almost the same experience we did when it comes to seeing deer almost at dark.

When we were on the Blue Ridge Parkway, we ended up driving AFTER dark... I think we saw at least 100 deer that night.. It was hard driving because they were crossing the road... Thank Goodness we made it --and didn't hit a deer (nor did they hit us)...

Great pictures. Glad you are enjoying your books and your sewing. Don't worry about clutter. That's just LIFE... ha
    Hugs,

  2. Great pictures - love your first one the first thing I saw were the antlers.
It's good you got some sewing in (along with your laundry). My laundry basket never seems to get any emptier no matter how much washing I do!!!
    Have a good week.

  3. Clutter? Yep, I have too much stuff! Plus there are way too many things to do besides clear clutter. :)

It's deer season here too. I sure hope not too many of them are hit by cars.

  4. Two deer decided against running across the road this morning, when we went to get groceries. I'm glad they turned around the other way when they saw us!

The auto level did a good job bringing out details in those two top photographs.

  5. Your trick worked beautifully, I can really see the deer, with such big antlers! I'm going to look up this book and see what it is about!

  6. That photo came out really well after all. I love the way he's looking at you so disdainfully. Happy Kindling!

  8. i love that deer hiding in the weeds and yes I can see it. the kitties are so sweet and I love horses. what a wonderful place you have for viewing nature and wildlife and not so wild life. jealous just a bit. good luck with what ever you do in the basement today. my house is clutter free except for 2 spots. the desk is one of those, i just don't get it, why i let things pile up on it and spend an hour cleaning it off. the other spot is the basket i stand my bills and mail in. why not just throw away the stuff i throw away when i spend and hour cleaning it out.

  9. The buck shows up very well considering the limited light you were shooting in. Nice series with the cats and the horse too. The book problem, I think, is occurring to many folks. The choice to buy a hard copy of something or a digital one for a reader. I do some of both! :-)

  11. Oh, yeah, I have the same clutter control problems. If you leave a stack of stuff for long enough it's easy to get through it because you realize you really don't need any of it. I have several of those stacks here and there, and am pushing my hubby to build me some more shelves for storage in my office so I can organize a little better.

  12. Great animal shots, Rose! What a nice drive to see them all! Thanks for your comments on my blog, too, by the way!

I know what you mean about books! Now I'm a terribly old-fashioned person and refuse to get a Kindle, so I have books spilling out of the rafters! Every time we have ever moved, the people who helped out complained about the cartons of books! I feel sorry for the movers, but I just can't part with the books. They are like old friends.

  13. Love seeing all the critters! The deer shot came out well for the conditions. I think the question is, "Does anyone NOT have clutter control problems?" Sometimes it seems like all I do is try to control the clutter.
