The Mama and the Papa

I have not been feeding the birds this summer...but decided I best use what is left before bugs get into it. The cardinals are some of the most frequent visitors...
They even started to build a nest right by the front steps, but decided against it this time before they got it finished. I do know why they even think about it...the cats are always out there. The cardinals would just fuss at them or us if we came out...

I heard a Carolina wren 3 or 4 morns, but did not see it. I hung up a gourd, but no luck. Actually hung up two gourds...but both are failures so far.

I seen the hummingbird pass by my new flowers again today...it may have actually been there for more than passing by, but I didn't see it till it was flying away.
*************
I was busy today...hung out 3 loads of laundry...it dried in less than half the time it would have taken to dry in the dryer. I cannot believe how quick it dries when the humidity is down.

We are anxiously waiting for our tomatoes to grow and get ripe...we have little ones...almost the size of a marble. And we have one bell pepper that is approaching golf ball size. I am sort of worrying about if everything got pollinated good. I sure hope so.

  1. Hi Rose, Cute pictures of your Cardinals. I feed mine year round ---so the Cardinals are usually the first to visit us in the mornings and the last to visit before dark.

When I drink my CANNED tomato juice, I think of you --and how much you love your tomato juice, the REAL THING. Hope you get lots of tomatoes this year.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  3. Nice pictures of the cardinals. I can count on cardinals coming to our feeders too. We feed the birds year round. I like eating fresh tomatoes; too lazy to plant them though.

  4. we stood in the backyard a couple of days ago watching a male cardinal up on the power line, he was doing his repetive call that sounds like someone calling there dog. each time he made the sound his feathers and tale shook like crazy. we laughed out loud.

  8. We don't usually get Cardinals in our area. Just one time after a big storm I spotted a female Cardinal on my birdbath - got some good photos, but it was gone the next day.

  10. I guess the cardinals found a better nest site. Great photos of them are the feeder! I had a young one out there the other day. At least one successful nest!

  11. I'm amazed at how common cardinals are in you yard. We have a pair but I have seen them rarely in the past couple of weeks.
