Stove...

This old stove was at the Veedersburg flea market.  I have never seen one quite like this. I do not know why I didn't take a photo from the end.  Well, I know, but it is no excuse.

We did not make it up there till late in the day on the last day it was open.  We were trying to hurry through and not miss any of the booths still there...some had already left.    And others were packing up.

Notice the name Acme Wildwood on the side...I can not see or hear the word Acme without I am back in grade school and it is Saturday morning and I am glued to the TV watching the Road Runner show.  (Only in winter were we clued to the TV on a Sat. morn...in summer, we were either playing or had work to do.)

Did anyone else enjoy  it as much as we did...all of us loved it.  And Neal and I still laugh about it.

And remember how when we were kids, there were cartoons on Saturday mornings, and on most evenings there was either a half hour or hour of them...and we thought we were so lucky to have that much. We would never have imagined having TV channels just for kids all day long.

  2. That is one fancy stove, maybe it was used to heat up a store.

  3. That's an interesting looking stove. I can imagine recycling it to use as a base for an outdoor table or maybe adding to it for a funky lawn ornament.

  5. That old stove is unique!

I remember afternoon cartoons, too. I guess it gave mamas a chance to cook supper!

  6. I like that old stove. And the RoadRunner cartoon was a nice look back in time. I remember it. Hilarious and thanks for sharing that.

  7. I remember the Roadrunner cartoons very much -- I always enjoyed them, although I often wondered how Wiley could be so dumb. The stove you found is interesting. I've never seen one quite like it either.

  8. It is a great looking stove. I would like to see the end too, but the side showed the label so we could read it.

  9. Too funny!!! One of my favorite shows also. Everything Wiley Coyote bought was from ACME---I got it. MB

  10. Oh I forgot to mention the old stove. Cheri and Cam found part of one on the ranch the last time we were there. It is funny how things pop up even if you've been over the land lots of times. I think she is going to make a planter out of it. MB

  12. One of the reasons you are so creative, Rose, mostly likely has a lot to do with the fact that you did not watch much TV. I am thankful that my family went many years without TV...Not because we couldn't afford it but because we were living so far out in the countryside that it wasn't available. The ladies entertained themselves with sewing and quilting.

  13. That is quite a stove. I've not seen one like that before, although I see it says Chicago on it, and I grew up in "the region." My grandma had two wood-burning stoves in her house as her heat source.

I had to laugh - I'm the same as you whenever I see or hear "Acme." I wasn't allowed to watch Saturday cartoons very often, but always did when I got to sleep over at a friend's house. To this day, Coyote and Road Runner are my all-time favorite cartoon characters from childhood. :-)
