We survived the wind...

Yesterday afternoon, a storm moved through our area...the worst of it missed us.  The wind was some of the worst I have seen...I have never seen a storm move through as fast.  But we were on the tail end of it.  Our local weatherman said that the wind was reaching 75 mph at ground level.  North of us about 20 miles, two trailers were turned over.  And two or three counties south of us had a tornado touch down.
When it cleared out the first time, I jumped in the Rav to head north to capture a few pics.  The storm was still happening about 3 or 4 miles north of us.  As up you can see by the above pic, I got in the edge of it.
Then I take a few more pics as I begin to look south.
I know it has not been long ago that I gave a cloud show over on my Time Stand Still blog, but I just cannot resist when they are like this.
I will leave you with this final one...
It was starting to move in on me by this one...I grabbed a couple shots and headed for home.  The wind was fierce by then and raining hard....but by the time I got south just a couple miles, I had driven out of the worst of it.

  1. I'm glad you got missed by the storm. We had some hard winds and rains as well, but mostly flooding here. Tornado warnings were south of us. I did think of you when I had heard Washington Illinois got hit, I figured it was going your way. You go some really nice photos, love that last one.

  4. You shot a fine storm series. The storm was obviously unusually strong and violent. I like the range of grays you captured in these shots. Very well done!

  9. Great photos, Rose… Love seeing the storm roll in --although I hate that it did so much damage to some areas. Sad what happened in Illinois… Mother Nature can be cruel for sure…

We had lots of wind here all day long and some rain --but nothing severe… We did have watches and warnings here last night --but luckily, nothing happened… Scary!

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  10. When I watched the news last night and saw the tornado reports I wondered about you.
The storm came through here about 9-9:30. The winds were awful and we lost power briefly. It didn't last long for us.
I like clouds in the sky too Rose - lovely series!

  13. I am happy to hear that the storm missed you. We have friends in Illinois who were not so fortunate. Thankfully, the only damage was to material things that can be replaced.

  14. Glad to see that you posted and that everything is good at your place. I was wondering about you all. You sure got some great cloud images!

We had some threatening clouds (like yours) go over us and some heavy thunderstorms but the tornadoes all went north, east, and south of us. How fortunate this happened on a weekend and not a typical school or business day.

I hope Lorelei's family was spared any damage.
