Lame bird...

This little junco was here both yesterday and today.
Notice it's little leg that it drags along behind.  Yesterday it did not seem to bother it but it struggled today.

It is has been in the negative numbers all day, just as predicted.  I saw it as low as -12ºF this morn, it got up to -7ºF and I thought I saw it a degree warmer than that but not sure.  And it sits back down at the -12ºF again as I type this.

I have felt so sorry for the birds...they have really suffered today.  They would gather on my front porch and in the bushes out there.  I could actually see them shiver.  I could figure no way to make them a warm place to stay that they would use.

And Roger put out some more food, and one of the deep footprints he left served the birds as a shelter.  I don't know why, but I only saw them use the one.  This one dove sat in it about to go to sleep.  I thought it might be dying and pecked on the window....it roused and went back to eating.

The little junco above had to use its wings to balance itself.  Or at least I think that is what it was doing.
************
I am working on puzzle...this is my third one since Christmas.  It does not want to got together good.  It is hard to explain...the pieces that actually fit together don't go together good.  So is a pain to work....

A friend of my husband that lives south of Terre Haute had a big limb break out of one of their big old pine trees and just missed really damaging their house.  How it didn't knock out windows is more than I know.  He sent pictures and it could not have been any closer.  It did tear up their deck.
 **********
It feels so good to be blogging again.  I am slowly trying to touch base with everyone.

Poor Junco looks like it's leg is broken. Our doves puff themselves up in these cold temps, then go to sleep sitting on branches. Surprising they don't fall off!
Stay warm.

All the dying is making me insane. We are warming up today to +14 and I'm aware that this is still quite cold to a bird that weighs 3 ounces, if that. But dang. I hate it.

Awe poor thing. We put our kitty in the garage where it's much warmer he'll be there until the temps warm up. He's used to the cold but we just couldn't leave him outside in the bitter cold.

A fine picture of that crippled bird. I hope he makes it through the winter. We had some cold, but not your level of cold.

Poor little birdie. I'm sure the birds have a hard enough time during this weather ---but having a problem makes it even worse. Poor thing. Glad you put out some food. I have been refilling the feeders twice each day this week.

Our low this morning HERE was MINUS 10… Probably a record of some kind for us… BUT--it's warming up nicely now.

Stay warm.
Hugs,
Betsy

Poor little bird....makes me sad. We have -30 windchill today. I threw some bread out but it is to cold for the birds to come out and eat. My Frank and I are still working on our Christmas puzzle...we put a piece in here and there. The rate we are going we will still have it on the table at Easter.

Poor little Junco. This weather is really tough on birds and animals. We've just been staying inside a lot. We're still not over our sickness we picked up on the airplane.

Oh that poor little bird. I'm so glad you are helping to feed them during this horrible weather. We've been lucky (so far) with fairly decent winter weather.

Oh the poor little birdie. It needs to keep warm. I just feel so bad when I know these things happen. I hope he makes it but with that freezing and below zero weather---I am afraid for it. Now I am going to dream about it all night. I will have to say a prayer for the sweet bird.It is hard to get back to blogging---It is time consuming but I am glad you are slowly returning.

I think the birds are struggling way more than usual. I'm glad you are putting out seed. We are too.
