Through the windshield

Another shot from the archives.  But we did have a thunderstorm earlier...it didn't last long.  The wind was really strong, and the weatherman said there was an unconfirmed tornado in the county next to us.  There was a confirmed one in Effingham, IL which it at least two hours from us.

Just thought I would do a quick post...been busy today but not accomplished a lot when all is said and done.  We had to do some Walmart shopping, came home and put the things away.  I had sheets I had left in the dryer, so got them over in the dryer soon as we got home.

Had chicken I had to package to freeze, and dishes to do up.

And when the sheets were dry, put them back on the bed.  To put sheets on this particular bed feels like I am wrestling an elephant.  I have never hated to put sheets on any bed...but I do hate this one.  One thing I want to know.  Does anyone else just take the sheets off the bed, wash them, and then put them right back on the bed?  I do that almost all the time now.

My mom did not do that...but I guess with so many beds, she just wanted the beds to get made.  So, I always stripped the sheets off, and put the clean ones on right away.

With all the cold and snow we have had, I have sure been thankful for the washer and dryer.  Every time I do a load of clothes, I think of mom and all the laundry she did with just a wringer washer, and no dryer. And she always washed something with a washboard first, then threw them in the wringer.  I don't even know if anyone uses a washboard now....or if you can buy one.

We had a ringer washer and scrub board, too. And my mom would starch all the clothes and then iron them....it was hilarious when that starch would dry and those clothes were hard and wrinkled in little globs in the basket. And she hung them out to dry....and she held a full time job and cooked all the meals....never ate out except on special occasions birthdays. How did they do it? For one thing, they didn't have a computer to take their attention away from the housework! lol And they rolled our hair and gave us home perms....amazing women from the 40's and 50's!

The cluster flies are starting to wake up from their hibernation I see. If they have any sense though they will go back to sleep for a but longer!!!

You were asking if I could make decisions easily when picking things out for the house. I generally go by my gut feeling and if you read today's post you will see what I picked out yesterday and why.

As we have purchased two new builds before I think we are pro's at what to buy and what not too. It helps though that both dh and I have very similar tastes.

I remember the wringer washer diapers wrapped around the wringer,If it does, an article of the wash may
wrap several times around a roller before it is noticed; unwinding such a
piece is often difficult, sometimes impossible without removing a roller .
Its you're already happened?

I am getting to wanting to own only about 2-3 sets of sheets so they linen closet won't be so crowded. Means laundering more often, but maybe that is not so bad.

I hang my sheets out all winter long . . . we have a large screened porch. That makes it easy to hang them, no trekking through the snow to hang them on the clothes line. They freeze out there on the line. I leave them there for a few days, bring them in, stretch them out here and there so I can enjoy the fragrance of freshly dried sheets. Then I fold them, put them away and they are fresh and ready fir the next "change the sheets" day. Long story short . . . this gal never dries sheets in the dryer . . . guess being retired, older, time on my hands, has some rewards.

When I was first married I had a wringer washer and then we moved and I got a washing machine--nice. I loved hanging clothes out specially diapers and then my Mother said I needed a dryer but I didn't want one but she insisted and got one for us. I still continued to hang out clothes but finally caved and used the dryer. Now I don't even have a clothes line. I would like one though.
I always wash my sheets and put them back on. I do have two sets though. When the kids were little they would start out with a bottom and top sheet and end up with only the bottom and a blanket. Why fight it.
Interesting post, Rose. MB

I actually saw a washboard for sale at our Ace Hardware. I take the sheets off, wash them and put them back, too.
Hope you have a good day.

Yep, take the sheets off, wash them and put them back on.

Life sure is simpler now than it was back when I first got married. Unfortunately, most of us have forgotten how much things have improved so we still complain and want more. :)

A fine shot from the archives. I too wash the sheets, dry them, and put them back on the bed on the same day.

I used to wash the sheets and replace them, but with the cats, it was more work. I'd have to cover the bed with something while the sheets washed. Now I just strip it, make it and wash it. I just didn't want the cats laying all over the mattress cover while the sheets were in the washer.

We had crazy weather too...and still are....nature is having a seizure. I changed the sheets last night on our bed and had the same challenge/struggle as you. And yes I do wash and put the sheet back on the bed. I have an extra set of sheets but just prefer this set.

Yes, we need to appreciate our lives these days ---compared to what our parents when through...

We had that storm late last night also... Windy /thunderstorms/lightning---just like a spring one! There were tornados in TN also--but luckily, we had nothing severe here.

I am one who washes the sheets and puts them right back on the bed.. We have different sheet sets for winter and summer... When it gets warmer, I'll swap them out... Works for us!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

Interesting photo! Well done!

I tend to put new sheets on right away, rather than wait for the clean ones. I just want to be done with the job. Our beds are upstairs and the wash is down in the basement, so I don't want the extra trips.

Modern appliances are certainly wonderful. Mom had to hang the clothes in the basement all winter.

I used to love to help my Grandma do the wash. She used a wash board and a wash tub. We hung it all out, it got dry, she sprinkled it, rolled it, then ironed it. Wish I'd known to tell her to take a few pieces down that were almost dry and iron them then. :) I take my sheets off, wash and dry and return them to the bed.
