From the past

I have posted this photo before...I like it.  A lot.

I look at it and think probably all the cooking for the family was done right there with very few other items.  Yet my kitchen is crammed full.  Some items I only use once in a blue, blue moon.  Some I have not used in years.

I have a George Foreman grill.  It makes great hamburgers, but I seldom get it out.  I got it because we had one at work and used it all the time so I thought I would use one just as much here at home.  I was wrong.  Yet I cannot bring myself to get rid of it.

I have an electric skillet.  I use it occasionally at the family picnic to keep something warm.  But not at every one.

I sit around and think of getting rid of stuff, yet I never act on it.  I even found THIS list of things to get rid of and have it saved for inspiration.

I just wondered how many feel like their life is cluttered with stuff?  Sometimes I feel owned by stuff...life would be so much simpler if I got brave and disposed of a lot of it.

  1. I really like that list of stuff to get rid of, Rose. I'm going to start on it tonight when I get home from the hospital.

Actually, I started last night. Would you believe we had two telescopes? My son-in-law picked one up yesterday evening so now we have one. :))

  2. I can totally relate to your post, I too have a George Foreman grill and I can't tell you the last time I have used it. I have a few other small appliances that I seldom if ever use. I'm going to check out you link :)
    Love your photo.

  3. Funny about all the things we acquire in our life. things that seemed so important at one time.
We moved about 12 years ago when our small farm and other land around us was being developed. since everything was going to be razed we just left bunches of stuff---some I wish I had kept but sure get along without. LOL

  4. I like that list. I get rid of things pretty regularly, even in the kitchen. But then there are things that come in like a big Pyrex loaf pan from the mother-in-law. I only have a small one, so it seemed obvious, right? :)

  5. A very attractive shot. Our human natures are prone to put up with minor irritations than go to the trouble of actually taking things to Good Will or other recycling places. So, we keep all of it! :-)

  6. I love this list and will be going back to it a lot!!! I just bit the bullet last year and we took boxes and boxes to Goodwill. But we still need to get rid of more, 45 years builds up a lot of stuff! Remember, Jesus had nothing! And our goal is to be like Him. Well, I wouldn't go THAT far, but still, we both need to work on it. Love the picture, you got it from the perfect angle!

  7. I really downsized 4 years ago while I was cleaning out my house to move. Since I have lived here I have downsized even more. I still have a lot of things I never use.

  8. We have a grill and use it ALOT. I love food cooked on the grill. YUM...

Everytime I get rid of something I don't think I need or want anymore, I will invariably wish (after it's gone) that I had it... Oh Well--it's still good to get rid of stuff...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  10. We have a George Foreman grill too. We use it every time we have hamburgers! I like how it drains off the grease.

  15. I always wanted a house with a fireplace like this, set up like an historic kitchen...not to cook on, mind you (unless I got an URGE! :-) ) but to enjoy the way it looks. I own a weaving loom that dates back to 1840 and don't even have it here with us, because it is kind've large and I have no place for it. Another room in my make-believe house...

  16. I'm always wanting to get rid of stuff and can't seem to do it. Part of it is that some of the things are probably "worth something" so I feel I can't just get rid of them without trying to sell them....but never have any way to sell the stuff! Other stuff, like you, I keep thinking that maybe I will still use it some, so I hang on to it. I hate clutter and I hate owning so much "stuff"....but can't seem to conquer it. I do like that photo and think the days of having less stuff were probably good in that way, if not in other ways :-)
