A few randoms...

1.  Does anyone else love home-canned tomato juice as much as me?  I love to have a jar handy if I get a cold.  It is one of the few things that sound good and tastes good then.

2.  I am enjoying the birds at the feeders this winter.  Do you now feed birds and have you always? I did when I was a child...mom would let me feed the extra cornbread, and some corn.  I can't remember what else we fed them.  We did not buy food...in fact, I wonder how long has big bags of bird seed been available?  I just started feeding them again in the past few years...so the big bags of birdseed may have always been available and I just didn't notice.

3.  Yesterday, we found this new place where it was easy to get to the Big Raccoon Creek. It has a big sandbar.  A perfect place to take Lorelei.  Hoping we can make it back there this summer.  It is a good place to wade and/or fish...and she can throw rocks to her heart's content.

4.  This is one of the little cuties we saw yesterday!

5.  I totally love days like this...I only wish they came more often than they do.

  2. My father in law makes the BEST tomato juice with just a bit of banana pepper to add a little zest.

I have always fed the birds, mostly suet and various bread items. However, 20 or so years ago I met a birder who promoted Blue Bird attraction and that is when my feeding REALLY took off. Yes, I buy seed in big bags and make my own mix. Not to be funny, but I am feeding the birds and squirrels, chipmunk and moles and even a mouse or too. The most amazing visitor a few years ago was a flying squirrel.

  3. Beautiful pictures, Rose. You had a beautiful day to be out. The creek area will be a fun place to share with Lorelei. Such a pretty photo of the finch. Hope you enjoy your Friday!

  5. Thanks for sharing your awesome photos today. I do remember the canned tomato soup. I made fresh applesauce the other day, and it was like a sweet memory.

  7. I do like tomato juice but I have never made it myself! We have fed our local birds for a few years but I have no idea of seeds were available in times gone by. Oh, wait! My grandparents used to have bird feeders and that was quite a while ago! The puffy clouds in the last photo are gorgeous!

  8. I remember you saying in past years how much you enjoy fresh tomato juice.... BUT--I think I remember that this past year, you didn't get to make much since the weather messed up the tomatoes... SO--I'm glad that you still have some....

I am not much of a tomato juice person --but I do love summer tomatoes... YUM....

Great fishing/rock throwing place for you all and that precious granddaughter.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  10. Gosh I like the idea of home-made tomato juice. It reminds me of summer in Spain where my husband's family drink chilled gazpacho by the bucketful. I enjoy feeding the birds too. At the moment my garden is full of green parakeets, which are definitely not a native species. They arrive in a posse and noisily devour everything. I worry that they're putting our native birds under pressure. Big Raccoon Creek looks amazing: a great place for little Lorelei to play on warm sunny days. All the best for now, Bonny
