Bits of random thankfulness....

1.  Since Mother's Day is coming up, I am so thankful that my mom instilled in me a love of sewing.  It has given me pleasure for many years.

Also, I am so thankful to have had the privilege of being mom to my two daughters...and Mamaw of Lorelei.

2.  I am thankful to have these two mug-mats finished...I plan to go ahead and give them to my daughter.

3.   I finished these by doing a little free-motion quilting...not exactly proud of them but they will do for potholders.  I didn't know what I would do with them but when Sarah came to get Lorelei this evening, she liked them so they went home with her.

4.  I am thankful to have come across a new show called Victorian Slum House, this is a link to a page of photos from the show.  You can got to PBS.org video page and actually watch an episode.  I don't know how long the video will be available.  The show is a reality show, has people actually living the way they did 150 years ago.  During the show, it shows actual photos from that era, and tells a lot of facts about how things were back then.

5.  I am thankful to have had the experience of raising a few calves with one of these:
When Roger and I moved to Tennessee we ended up raising two calves, but they did not take to the bucket at all.  Instead we got bottles.

6.
And last, I am thankful I don't have to drive something like this.  Though we have drove worse when we were young.  I actually can't decide if this was a have to/make do repair or some kid doing it for fun.

I'll be leaving you with a little Jackson Browne

Linking these to Thankful Thursday ...

Thank you Michelle this enjoyable meme.

  1. I have always loved Fountain Of Sorrow. Browne has written some wonderful songs. I had this album and many others of his. I have heard of this show, but didn't know what it is about. Your sewing is always so exquisite! My mom sewed, too. She even made her own purses. But sadly, she did not pass along her love of it to me.

  2. I love to sew but it didn't come from mom. Your sewing is so neat and love the 2 mug mats. That is a nice music. Have a great day!

  3. You are very talented with your sewing. I did sew when I was younger but wasn't ever great at it.

  6. This is a nice post. It is always good to think about what we have, have had and what we are glad we don't still have. I think the pic of the car is the owner's way of having a much noisier car. It seems the big thing now with young drivers in our area is to have the loudest car you can.

Happy Mother's Day. I hope you have the best one ever.
    xx, Carol

  10. I didnot get the love of sewing from my Mom---although she tried. (I do miss my Mom--she has been gone about 5yrs now--age 95) She was a seamstress and even took in sewing when us kids young and my dad went to college. But I don't love to sew and I made clothes for my girls and some fancy dresses and I even made cowboy shirts for my brother and my hubby too. Wore myself out---haha
I like the spiral stitching on your pot holder--neat!
We just used bottles on the calves or goats here although I do have a couple of the buckets.

  11. I'm thankful you posted these so I could enjoy a smile. My Mother was a seamstress by trade. I will never know in my whole body what she knew in her pinky finger, but I imagine she smiles at my attempts. :-) I can see wonder when I look at another's attempt at free motion quilting, but when I look at my own the only thing that comes to mind is 'where is my ripper?' I've actually used one of those buckets and am glad I never had to drive one of those cars. :-) Happy Mother's Day to you.

  12. Happy Mother's Day. I love the things in your list of things you are thankful for, and smiled at some of the last ones. Hug little Lorelei for me. I'll have to come back and listen to the songs. I like the music you like.

  16. I love your quilting. Your work is so pretty and harmonious. And I totally understand your gratitude for being able to do what you love. I think we are all hard-wired to be creative. It's when people can't express that creativity that they run into trouble. Sometimes simple things like knitting, cross stitch or sewing can save our sanity.
