In progress

I have several things in progress...including this puzzle.  I had it started once before and something happened and I decided to just throw it back in the box.  I had some sections together but this is one of those puzzles that even though it interlocks good, it does not hole together to pick it up and move it about.  You know how some puzzles hold together so good you can pick up a pretty big portion to transport it to where it is supposed to be.  This is NOT one of those...some of the time it is hard to even move three pieces without one falling off.

This is just one of the things I have going...it is the one getting the most attention when I have the time.  Though I have had it out several days, last night is first night I have spent a lot of time working on it.  Oh, I have sat here and there for a few minutes, but most days I have only worked half an hour or 45 minutes.

We got our little walk in today...for the 3rd day in a row.  I am not sure if we will get it done tomorrow and Tuesday but Roger is enjoying it.  I think it is helping him mentally.  As well as helping me.

***********
Do you ever think about how easy you have it compared to your mom/dad?  Or just how much you have.  I would be embarrassed to tell you how many pairs of scissors I have in this house..or I should say we because Roger has a pair or two that are his for flytying, etc.

When I grew up all my mom ever had was one pair of scissors, other than a pair that came with hair clippers.  I don't know how long she had had them when I came along...but she made almost all my clothes throughout school.  (I did make a few things when in high school.)

I could not count the quilts whose pieces she has cut with those scissors.  She made pillowcases, she made curtains.  Anything she wanted, she made.  And I might add that it was made with a treadle sewing machine.

  1. What a great idea! Put the pieces on sheet pans! And when you move them you can use a spatula. Really. My mom only had one pair of usable scissors too. I even did a post once called "Where are the good scissors? This is what she was always saying. I am glad you are having lovely walks together, it is so good in so many ways.

  4. I remember those treadle sewing machines, and many stitches by hand my mother and grandmother sewed, and all the clothes they starched and ironed. I do have it very easy!

  5. You look so organized with your puzzle. I just dump all the pieces on a table and proceed from there.

  6. There must be at least 1000 pieces; lot of tiny pieces to put together?

  7. Your mom must have been a great seamstress. My mom was more a knitter. Yes, I think of how much more we have now than when our parents were the same age. I also only remember one pair of scissors and bowls and hand whisks instead of anything electric. I love working on puzzles, was doing one tonight.

  8. Haven't seen a puzzle sort like that.
When all my cousin and such would get together there was a big puzzle out. And we were told if we didn't get one piece in we weren't alloud to eat, and the second piece in then we could have a piece of pie.
    This was during Thanksgiving.

  9. I haven't done a puzzle in a while but I do enjoy them now and then.
Sometimes, I DO stop to appreciate how easy my life is compared to those that came before me. It makes me feel a bit humbled.

  10. When I saw that picture I thought "wow, Rose is really serious about her puzzles", lol. Great Idea!! Scissors..I have a shoe box almost full of sewing, embroidery scissors and rotary cutters. BUT to be honest included in that box are my very best scissors that I have had since we were married. Some I have bought with coupons and 60% off sales. Then besides the box, I have MANY cheap $1 a pair scissors kept in several areas of the house that everyone knows can be used for anything...but don't you dare take a pair out of my sewing room. I have trained them well. I don't often compare what we have to what my parents had. But I do compare how much easier conveniences make our life. And how much technology has changed how we do things for both the good and the bad.

  11. So happy you are enjoying the puzzle. My grandmother was a seamstress and I think she only owned one pair of scissors. She must have used them for 40 plus years. Glad you both are enjoying the walking.

  13. You are right about us haven't so much. Like you I have dozens of pairs of scissors. Mom had her sewing scissors and her pinking scissors and we were not allowed to touch them. I understand that now that I am a quilter! We were always hunting for the other scissors that we could use but that were not always in the drawer where they were suppose to be. I still use a pair of hair cutting scissors that I got when I was in high school. When I have a pair of scissors now that loses their sharpness it is cheaper to buy new ones then to pay to have them sharpened. I saw a photo on Facebook of an old glass dish with holes around the edge that someone was using for a sewing aid and there must have been a dozen pair of scissors in the holes around the edge, all the same size....small for applique type work. I can't imagine why so many?
