Blooms and other stuff....

I would hate to have to count the blooms on this bunch of Asiatic lilies...they are the gift that keeps on giving.  And isn't that bunch of violets just simply gorgeous?  I can never pull them up...I would not mind having a whole bed of them.

Looking down on the from the top...you can also see shamrock to the side...I can pull those up, but I don't mind them growing either.  So I usually let them go a while.

Just a couple close-ups...

That is all from this lily, though I think I still have another color to bloom.  And if I can see my neighbor out, I am going to her house...she has some of the pretties, darkest Asiatic lilies I have ever seen.

***********
I have not been accomplishing very much.  I worked on a couple cabinet drawers yesterday at one point, plus some shelves, and threw away quite a few things.  Things I am not proud of having.  I had probably 3 dozen little packets of Taco Bell sauce...our Taco Bell has been closed for over a year.  Why did I still have them?  Just one item in a bunch odds and ends.

Also yesterday, I was thinking about mowing the yard.  Not only does mowing the yard wear me out, but also having to worry about Roger.  He won't let me just go and mow...I can mow and take a break and mow some more.  It is actually good for me.  But he thinks he has to help, and I cannot relax when he is mowing.  Afraid of him falling, afraid of him having another stroke.  He had mowed the day he has his brain bleed so for him to get out mowing always strikes a note of fear for me.

Well, l had decided to wait till Thursday to mow, and who should appear later but Sarah and Lorelei, and Sarah mowed for me.  I hate for her to come after her day at work....she generally puts in long days,  and will put in almost a full day on a lot of Saturdays.  Still, I was so thankful.

Today has been a couple loads of laundry...it rained so they dried in the dryer.  My washer and dryer are in the basement.  (You cannot believe how thankful I am to be able to go up and down the stairs on my feet.)  (I am not sure I will ever take being able to walk for granted again.)

Anyway, Roger has always saved his hunting magazines and gun magazines, plus some fishing magazines.  I have not been able to bring myself to throw them away till today.  He did not have a huge stack, because before his stroke, he had actually started trying to just keep those that had articles he might want to read again/or that showed how to do something.  Still there were more than I liked to carry up the steps...but I got them up and out on the porch and used a wheel barrow to take them to the garbage can...

And can we say 'Boxes!)  I told Roger I should open up a box store.  Literally sell boxes.  Used boxes.  I tend to always save shoe boxes or small boxes just in case I need to mail something.   Today I carried most of the ones I had saved up and out...for when I next break down boxes.  Which should happen in the not too distant future.

To finish up my day I sewed a few more 4-patches.

That is what is happening in my corner of the world...how is it in yours?

  1. These are just beautiful. Such a pretty color. I do hope you can get some of the dark ones from your neighbor. The other day I saw a lady's yard with the prettiest pink glad. I don't have a pink and would love to trade for one of hers, if I can get up the nerve to ask! Sounds like you have been busy. I know our trash man is glad we are finally coming to the end of moving boxes, papers etc. So thankful that Sarah mowed your grass. One less thing to have to stress over. Take care and hope you have a restful night.

  2. Must be something about this time of the year , with the summer solstice coming in a couple of days, that makes us want to de-clutter. I got serious about that too today and have a couple of heavy boxes that one of my sons is going to have to put in the car for me so I can take it to the thrift store.
    Your Lily is amazing!!

  3. Oh my what a beautiful Lily. Love the color too.
Mowing is such an individual thing I think. After Dave had his stroke I hired a company to mow and stuff and then Kylee started mowing and when she left Shannon had a neighbor boy mow for a bit and now Shannon is doing it. Go from a push mower to a riding mower and then a big John Deere diesel mower---a big tractor type. Every on mows different I have never mowed for some reason. We went to Salem Oregon to visit Bob's daughter for Father's day and Bob's son mowed our yard and Bob was thankful but he doesn't lower the blade as low as Jim did so doesn't look as good but I told him not to say anything just Thank him. He did.
I always wonder how your ankle/foot is coming along. Such a freakish accident.
I broke my back and I will never be the same and it just ticks me off so much. MY hiking days are over---RATS!

  5. I am the same as you, cannot bring myself to throw away any kind of box. Till one entire room of our basement was nearly full of them. And of course after we got rid of all of them, then I needed one!! Our washer/dryer is in the basement, too. But I cannot get down there by the steps, I have to go outside and around the house, leaning on Phil. So he does all the laundry. Your lilies are gorgeous, so many blooms!! I don't think I have ever seen a lily bush with so many blooms!

  6. You've been SO BUSY!!!
And those lily blossoms are stunning. You have a green thumb.

Now, be careful going up and down those stairs. [the thing I fear with both of us is stepping in and out of the bathtub.]

  7. I love Asiatic Lily. Yours are so beautiful. I love the color. My orange ones are just starting to bloom. They have not multiplied as much as yours have. I bought a watering can just yesterday so I can put Miracle Grow on them better. Rain...Rain...Rain in the forecast for the next SEVEN days!! I'm beginning to think that this is what Climate Change means for northern Indiana. Since the kids moved to the west coast I am yet again saving boxes and packing guts. I have been sending a box each month with things for the kids. If I store things I use a clear plastic tote so I know what is inside. Most of the stuff I have now is yarns, fabric and seasonal clothes. My goal for at least the nexT 7 days is to sew SOMETHING!

  8. Beautiful Blooms!!
I need to get out and mow the lawn at the old house once again too, but it has just been too wet. Maybe tomorrow I'll give it a try.

  10. Your lilies are beautiful. I like mowing because there is a beginning, a middle and an end, but my mower broke last year, we haven't replaced it, and now my daughter mows with the riding mower. We downsized about 16 years ago now, so I'm not a keeper anymore. We have recycling options plus Goodwill close by so 'stuff' gets disposed of quickly anymore. I use to keep things just in case, but once I got rid of all of it I tend to like to keep it simple now. Gardening and reading going on here. :-)

  11. I am laughing at the taco bell sauces. i keep none of those type things but Bob does. catsup, mustard anything. he puts them in the fridge and the next day i throw them out. the other laugheter is his magazines. for years he got 5 magazines, now we are down to 2, but he would keep them for years, we had them stacked everywhere. i bought a basket and said you can only keep what fits in this big basket. he filled it and started stacking them on the tub. i can see about 15 right now from my rocker. we finally got rid of all but 3 stacks...
i am so happy you can get up and down to your basement now.

about boxes. i have a shelf in the living room closet. i keep them until that shelf is full and when i go to put one there if it will not fit, i pick one of each size to keep and break down the others and get rid of them... each time Amazon comes i think what a beautiful box.

  12. The flowers are stunning! I am the one who throws things and when things couldn't be found, I will get the blame for throwing them away. Lol!

  13. Goodness, your Lilies are stunning, gorgeous color! Your Taco Bell sauces made me smile. When I clean out my cupboard I am always surprised what I find in there. I fact I am slowly making my way through the house and downsizing all kinds of things. Sweet of your daughter to mow the yard. We will be out weeding but will wait for the cooler part of the day.

  14. Those lilies are gorgeous! You are really accomplishing a lot. I'm sorry it is so hard for you and that you are having so much work on top of being a caregiver. You are such a good person. I'm glad your daughter could help.
