Yellow....

Does anyone else associate yellow with autumn?  Do you ever notice how so many flowers that bloom in the late summer/early fall are yellow.

The Goldenrod has been blooming here for a few weeks.  It seems to me it has been early.  This photo did come from the end of September in 2011.  So maybe I am not imagining them being early.

Even though I am not anxious for winter, I am anxious for fall...for the roadsides to be alive with vibrant color.  For cool mornings.  I long for a walk in the woods....to see ginseng as it gets the golden glow of autumn with its bright red berries.   I want to smell the earthy smell of the woods...to me it seems stronger in autumn months.

I long for a walk in woods that ends up on a gravel bar in a stream where we can build a fire and hang a piece of meat on a stick and let it sizzle over the open flame.  I must admit I know of no place here that I could do that.  Still I long for that experience once again.

I am trying to wait patiently for my washer.  It is to be delivered and installed on Thursday afternoon.  I want to thank each and every one of you for your input.  I wish I had had time to wait for them all...but I knew I was going to have to wait a few days the best I could do.  So I had to bite the bullet and order one.

I went with a top loader again...a Whirlpool.  Before the dryer I have now, I had a Whirlpool and really liked it.  So I hope I like the Whirlpool washer as well.  I think I said before for every plus there is a negative...whether I went with front loader or top loader.  So I just hope I can live with my choice.  At least I won't have to wash by hand on a washboard or go to the laundry mat.

I made a pot of chili this afternoon...I like soup any time of year.  And would gladly do a pot of some kind of soup weekly, but that would not do for Roger.  He likes chili soup probably better than any.  And might possibly eat a second time from this.  And he will eat vegetable beef every now and then, but only one serving...only at one meal.  However, I could live on soups just about all year long.

Do you have a favorite food that you like any time of year...any season?

  1. I am seeing Goldenrod in bloom as well and think it is quite early.I love the sight of it, but I also don't want to rush things.

  2. Goldenrod is so pretty blooming, but it makes me sneeze and my eyes water! I love soups and stews too. I love veggie soup and also Brunswick stew but tomato based soups tend to give me reflux. I hope you both have a quiet evening.

  3. Both of us like green bean soup with lots of summer savoury. That's what I have simmering on the stove right now. I had enough fresh carrots from my tiny row in the raised box. I used them all. I would have liked to have fresh potatoes too but forgot to buy them when I did the groceries, Once the bean season is done we'll have to wait 11 months for it to come around again. I've tried using beans from the veg market but we just don't like them.

  4. I too have a few yellows out there that will go into the fall. I notice that I do get into a rut in the colors of flowers that I buy. I am not ready for fall yet but it will come. My summer was so busy and things just aren’t done like I had counted on. Chili is one of my favorite soups and my wife does not like it. I pick up a bowl once in a while at cafes wHen I know they have it on the menu.

Oh yes, I am a soup all year kinda gal; you just cannot go wrong with a bowl of soup and some hearty roll or sandwich! Being vegetarian, I like to put lots of lentils or beans in my soups, but in the summer (not that we have much of that in these parts), I might leave out the pulses and thicken with pasta or potato.

For me, autumn is orange and red. Yellow is 'summer'. YAM xx

  6. Soup would be it. Like you, I can and DO eat it all times of the year. I just made homemade chicken noodle soup a couple days ago and it was in the 90's. Also ice-cream. I could easily make a meal of it, but I am a grownup now. Yellow for fall, for sure. This is a beautiful photo of a wild sunflower.

  7. Beautiful photos Rose! We have a lot of yellow flowers around here too. What I have noticed is that we are getting a lot of falling leaves. Not sure if that is because of lack of water or do the trees know something we don’t :) Happy you have a new dryer on its way. The chili sounds good! Your memory of cooking your food on a fire is something I wish I had done in my lifetime, and I am looking forward to Fall now. I usually do right about now.

  9. I am confused, you asked for input on a washer, but you say here you ordered a dryer, toploader. did you order both? or is dryer a mistake. I love yellow flwoers above all colors and that first shot is gorgeous. I have not seen a filed of goldenrod in many years and I also love that to. it is way to hot in florida to have soup . we like veggie beef and chili but to hot to cook it. or eat it.

  11. Beautiful pictures.
I could eat chili year round but everyone in my house thinks soup & chili is a fall/winter meal only.

  12. Goldenrod is blooming here this month too. It attracts wood nymph butterflies here.

I love soup any time of year though I am more likely to cook it in the fall or winter.

  15. You may be right about yellow flowers and autumn. I can't say I actually like Autumn, but I do LOVE Halloween and I do spend quite a bit of time watching the activity in the bare trees. I don't know why, but yellow is my least favorite color. Did you ever wonder why we like certain colors and not others?

  17. Yes, that's right, there are many yellow late bloomers per year, although it's not that late yet?

  18. I personally think you made the right choice with a top loader.

  19. Glad you got a Whirlpool washer. I think Whirlpool is the best brand or used to be.
Bob is a great soup maker. He likes soup and will make soup year-round. I am only a so so soup fan though.
Yellow is a great color and I have no yellow in my garden--oh wait I had yellow glads and lots of orange. I am glad we always have cool mornings and evenings too. By nightfall it is hotter in the house than outside
    Have a good day

  20. I am ready for the cool weather of fall. We will have at least four more weeks of blazing hot days, then it will become so pleasant...can't wait.
