A peek at life

This is a scene from yesterday as we drove to Arthur, Illinois...

I put other, different photos of these over on my other blog...this Amish buggy is heavily cropped.

Someone I know is expecting a baby and I was hoping to get ideas for a baby quilt but had no success.   I was hoping to find a fabric to build one around.  The quilt shop I go to is for sale and though they get in  new fabrics they have a lot of empty spaces that used to be filled with fabric.  I so wish someone would buy it and keep it going strong.

I made a few more 4-patches day before yesterday...I keep thinking I am going to get back to sewing a little bit every day but it just does not happen.

I went out this afternoon and planted some bulbs I had picked up a few weeks ago...I took time to photograph a couple cottonwood leaves.

I hope the bulbs live...I could not decide where to plant them so just found some space and stuck them in the ground.  I did use a shovel some and was able to handle it fine.  I had not used one since I broke my leg...it felt completely normal.  In fact, I think it would probably be good for me to use one a lot.

On the reading front, I just finished listening to my one book, A Land More Kind than Home this evening while fixing supper and started listening to the Wesley the Owl one...I did not get to listen very long, but have done learned one fact.  It said that Barn owls are monogomous, and sometimes when their mate dies, they sort of lose the will to live and will die of grief.

I also started reading All-American Murder:  The Rise and Fall of Aaron Hernandez, the Superstar Whose Life Ended on Murders' Row by James Patterson.  I tend to read true crime books every now and then.  I have no idea why.  I don't want a steady diet of them...just one or two here and there.

  1. I need the owl book! The leaf is gorgeous! It would be cool to make a quilt of fall leaves.

The cool weather creeps on apace and quilting, like crochet, seems to me to be a fine activity for dark evenings. Or reading... YAM xx

  3. Your bulbs will probably be fine unless you do what I've done in the past, forget where you put them and then accidentally dig them up
( cutting some in half in the process).
I hope you find inspiring fabric for that baby quilt.

  4. I’m liking biographies more as I get older. I wonder why?

We have Amish here too. Our drivers need to slow down in areas where they live.

  5. did not know that about owls. sorry the fabric shop is leaving. I am typing in short sentences because the medicare ins guy is due here in 10 minutes. I thought the bulbs would freeze and that they have to be dug up and kept inside and replanted. did not know you can plant them in autumn.

  7. Hello,

I hope your bulbs do well! That is sad about the barn owls. Their numbers are dropping here due to the loss of farm land and barns. Wishing you a happy day!

  8. It is a shame that it is so hard for little shops like that to stay in business.
I like to read true crime once in a while too.

  9. I don’t seem to read much anymore, except obituaries and a thing related to my genealogy research. My current ancestry subscription expires November 11th. I intend to take a break from ancestry research for several months.

  10. I have always loved browsing in quilt shops, but, sadly, most don't stay in business very long. I can only think of one in our little town now. The owner is a friend of mine who offers classes a couple of days a week.
