Shhhhh--don't tell anybody
A year or two before Roger's stroke, I got a sewing machine to keep upstairs. In the dining room. Till I could look outside and see the sun when I sewed. But I kept bring up stuff and adding more...I had all you see in these two photos stuffed in my dining room. (To be honest, we seldom use it as a dining room these days.) But still, when I get to working on stuff, it is a total mess.
So today was the day...
I had a bedroom I kept free of everything except a couple items...to have to spread my quilt sandwich out to pin baste. But since I can no longer get down on my knees, I decided to move everything in there. I cannot begin to tell you the chore that was.
Roger was helping me move that tall shelving unit in the top photo...it is not heavy at all. I had taken everything off and it was easy to carry. I walked backwards till we got in there, and had Roger take his end around...and he started falling backwards and could not stop. I have no idea why he fell...he knocked over a chair, knocked over the ironing board and my drying rack...he was not hurt. He did not hit his head..it was almost like he went down in slow motion.
He sent the iron flying, along with everything I had sitting on the ironing board. I was thankful the iron fell away from him and did not flip back and hit him on the head. In the photo above, a couple things are still on the floor. I was texting with my daughter and sent her pics as I was cleaning up the mess. Let me reword that...I was picking stuff up off the floor. A lot of stuff still needs to find a home.
********
In trying to get to Roger when he was falling I did this...
My little finger does not tip up that way normally. I am not sure what I done...it does not want to bend down when it is flipped up like that but I can bend it down and if I keep my hand half closed it will stay better. If I open my fingers out, it flips up right away, It is hurting a little now, and the least bump gets a big OUCH from me.

Well....that could have been a LOT worse than it was. Luckily Roger is okay and hopefully your little finger will also be okay.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine what a tremendous job it was to transfer all your things to the new 'craft' room. Organizing it like you want it to be will take a while but won't it be lovely once it's done.
Now that the hard part is over, you will be able to take your time in getting everything in place. It's a nice spacious room and arranged so nicely. I am so glad Roger wasn't hurt. I hope that little finger is okay!
ReplyDeleteOh MY! Well, thanking god that it did not end a lot worse!! I hope your finger is not broken!
ReplyDeleteWow. You both were fortunate it wasn’t so much worse. Doing things as seniors is risky. My husband and I were working outside last week and somehow he ended up across the concrete walkway. He didn’t hurt his head but he could easily have. Neither of us knows what happened. It was scary. It was a wake-up call for us. We have to consider how we do things in the future for sure.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, so glad Roger did not get hurt in that fall. Your finger looks rather sore and painful. Hope that settles down quickly.

ReplyDelete...that might be a dislocation of the upper joint... it will probably self resolve. But if not right by day number two, it may need 'reset' - which you could do yourself but might be better to get to a nurse somewhere. Glad there was nothing worse, as others have said. YAM xx
Thank God, Roger is not hurt, probably shaken. Your finger might have a torn ligament or joint and needs an x-ray. Hope have kept your things so neatly in boxes.
ReplyDeleteOh, it makes me nervous to read this. I'm so glad Roger didn't get hurt, and I hope your little finger will straighten out. I've always like to move things around and change things, and then so afraid one of us will get hurt bad. Dan will help me move the heavy things but then he fusses..."I wish you would get things like you want them and then leave them alone", so I sure don't want him to get hurt. I would never hear the end of it. :) Can't wait to see you new work space all fixed up. Bet your nerves were shot after all that. Take care. Henny
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am happy that Roger was not hurt in the fall. It does sound scary. I have had a few hand surgeries, my finger bones can get stuck in a bad position and I have to pull it back into place. I hope everything is back to normal and all is OK. Enjoy your day and happy weekend!
Oh my goodness. SO glad that Roger didn't get hurt. I am sure that was upsetting to you both. Take care of that hand.
ReplyDeleteThe room will be great when you get done and you can have SUNLIGHT!
Oh geez. If it can happen, it will. Glad no one was hurt except you finger. I hope it rights itself. I have been told things like this do. As we get older, I am a firm believer that everything we do regularly should be on one floor. I don't think I would be able to navigate stairs in the house to a different level. Terry falls pretty often. Neither one of us ALWAYS pick our feet up the way we should. Terry ALMOST walks like that little old man Tim Conway played on the Carol Burnett show. Yes, go ahead and snicker at THAT thought, lol.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
xx, Carol
OH MY WORD!!!!! Murphy came to visit. if it can happen it probably will. so glad Roger is ok and that finger looks painful. don't wait to long, it might need attention... not sure what could make it tip up like that. does it hurt to straiten the tip? if not maybe make it straight and use sticks and splint it. if it hurts go to the doctor, don't wait until it gets worse. good idea to move it in the bedroom and I to can no longer get on my knees. now you can use the dining room table to baste on while standing...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it didn't turn out worse! I would say be careful but it seems you were already doing that. I would love to have a room only for sewing so I could SHUT THE DOOR and not see the mess.
ReplyDeleteJeannie@GetMeToTheCountry
That turned out better than it could have!!
ReplyDeleteThat IS a big job moving things from one room to another.
Should be nice though having all your sewing stuff in one place.
I'm glad Roger is okay and I sure hope you didn't break your finger! I used to have a sewing room in our partially finished basement but I finally got tired of being down there away from everything else all the time so I moved most of it upstairs. It was a big job plus I didn't have room for everything upstairs. So my sewing room now shares space with our guest room. I'm sure you will love it once you get your new work space set up. I just hope your finger heals quickly!
ReplyDeleteEveryone of a certain age can relate to this story. I'm to the point that when we start to work on something I take a few minutes to figure out what can go wrong and then try to anticipate how to avoid it. It doesn't take much as we age to just cause us to tip over, and sometimes that's a fall that isn't easy to recover from. I'm glad it looks like you both will recover, and you'll have a new organized craft room. Happy sorting.
ReplyDeleteOh geez, Rose, I hope you can be seen for that. I'm pretty cautious about injuries to extremities and that doesn't look right. I'm glad Roger didn't get hurt though. I had a weird kind of thing tripping over my big ol' feet thing the other day, don't know how I caught myself. You look pretty organized, it's been weeks and I still haven't put all my tubs of various junk back under the stairs.
ReplyDeletei am very proud of your hard work moving and organizing all of your quilting stuff Rose... i loved your photojournalist remarks it was a great story...
ReplyDeleteas for your little finger... it is called a trigger finger and a shot of cortisone from a plastic surgeon will fix it up....peter:)
I'm glad that neither of you was hurt badly. I'm sure that finger hurts. I hope that ice and rest will help it. Not sure it is trigger finger. I have one of those. If I bend it down, it sometimes locks up and I have to bend it back up. Cortisone does work for that.
