Mixture....

Do you like oranges?  I think they were my mom's favorite fruit.  I think about the only time we ever got oranges or bought apples was at Christmas.  The apples were red delicious and to this day, if I see them my thought automatically turn to Christmas.  They are a beautiful apple, but not one that I care to eat.

I was not especially fond of eating oranges either, but we would roll an orange around with a lot of pressure....the cut a small hole at the top, and I don't know if my brothers did this, but I would also use the knife and stab around down in the pulp....then squeeze the juice directly into our mouth...delicious.
**********
Well, I got a wish today.  We went to Hardee's this morn and as we were walking in I told Roger I wish 'T' and 'C' would walk in....I sat down, and Roger waited for our food...about the time he sat down in came T and C ...so we sat and had a good visit.   Then another couple we sometimes visit with came in.

That second couple has been married 60+ years.  I cannot remember if they had been married as long as I have been alive, or a year or so shy of that.  I know it totally surprised me cause they do not look nor act that old.  But lots of days there is a whole big group that they visit with.  And they personally know each other...know all the same people--people we don't know so we go ahead and sit elsewhere...

And while we were all talking today, found out that T's nephew had drywalled the other couple's whole house.  They were bragging on what a good job he had done and had not told who, so T asked who done it and it was that nephew...

As I have said before, we live in a small town...at Hardees most days there weill be a group that sit and visit...some eat, some just have coffee.  some of the workers know what we want to eat without us having to tell them...LOL
********
We had to run over to walmart as we left Hardees, and ran into Roger cousin and his wife there....so we were those people that stand and take up a whole aisle!  Though we did try to get out of the way,, and not really take up the whole place...and we were back in a back corner that does not have a lot of people come through.

*********
Every now and then I try to do some sketching with colored pencils.....I mean about once a year.  The above I got disgusted with and quit.  Others can just draw and sketch and paint so I get stuff and then I am then too afraid to even try but I really think a person has to try...sometimes over and over.   Maybe I should make that my New Year's resolution...to try daily weekly at least, or daily would be better.

I think I might be better off to cut and paste...LOL

  1. I like your Cardinal!! I have absolutely no talent for drawing. Sad but true. I tried for a whole year to get better at it but failed so I gave up.

  2. Rose, your cardinal is beautiful! I can almost hear that little chirping sound they make. Definitely keep drawing. I wish I could. My medium is words and I don't feel like I'm any good at that either, but the only way to get better is to practice. Merry Christmas! xoxo

  4. Can't believe all the folks you ran into and got to visit with this morning. That's so funny. We live in a small town too and here, it's MaDonalds (or used to be) where folks would gather. Laughed about you all taking up an isle at Walmart too. :) Rose, that Cardinal is really good. You need to keep at it. I could never draw a bird that looked so real.

  5. Your drawings are wonderful, I haven't done any sketching since high school. I remember red delicious apples in the candy bags that all the children got after our Christmas program at church when I was a child. I too think of Christmas when I see those apples today. Red delicious apples and a box of cracker jacks, couldn't wait to open that bag.

  6. Your drawing is very good! A lot better than I could do! It is a pretty Cardinal. I would love seeing you post more! This is another benefit of living in a small town, everyone seems to know everyone some how or other.

  7. I love your sketches and have coincidentally been looking for a good paper for watercolor pencils as well as basic drawing pencils. They're for my little cousin who is a budding artist. I love oranges or cuties or anything that's in season. The smell of oranges remind me of Christmas and I've got a fridge full right now.
I wish there was a place you could run into folks you know around here like your Hardees, but I did run into cousins at the Farm & Fleet on Black Friday and that was fun.

  8. I had to chuckle about your Christmas orange - the only time we ever saw an orange was one sitting in the toe of our Christmas stocking. Beside it would be a chocolate fish (marshmallow covered in chocolate) and a banana, and then the rest of the stocking would have little trinkets in it. How I loved that orange!

  9. Well, the Cardinals are quite nice. If I had tried no one would be able to tell what kind of bird it should be. LOL I'm better off sticking with the camera. That I know I can do.

  10. Several of our friends meet every morning at McDonald's for breakfast and have just the grandest time. Since we have the farm to look after, we haven't gotten into that yet. I do think it is quite wonderful to get together with friends, though. You are off to a great start with your sketching; keep up the great work!

  12. The community in a small town tend to be closer and that is the good part of staying in a small town. Your sketching is good. You will get better as you sketch more.

  13. I love oranges! I go through stages where I crave citrus. I remember getting an orange in the toe of my stocking as a kid. What a treat that was.
That is neat that you all visit at the Hardees. Neat small town vibe.
I think the cardinal is quit good. Keep on drawing.
    Have a good day.

  14. it's a blessing to be in a town where you know everyone and meet friends when you go out. there are many of us who would love that. I like talking to strangers in places, and it would be better to talk to people I know... the cardinal looks good to me. I had to smile at the cut and paste remark. I spent hours as a child cutting and pasting and trying to draw. I loved to color in coloring bookds and tried to draw.

  15. I can't draw and I don't doodle. You are pretty good at it and bet you'd get rally into it if you made a habit to draw more frequently. Oh, I wish we had a Hardee's here. We used to and we would go there pretty often. They had a steak breakfast sandwich that we loved. Citrus fruit does not agree with me. I love baked apples and Carmel Apples. I LOVE peaches. I was pretty upset this year when peaches were almost $2 a pound! Plums are another favorite of mine. My grand daughter in law introduced us to Plantains..LOVE THEM. We really should eat more fruit.
    Merry Christmas!!

  18. Hello,

  19. Wow, that's exactly how I used to eat an orange when I was a kid!
A little side note on oranges: I remember Mom getting cans of mandarin orange pieces for special desserts as a kid outside of Chicago, so they were rather exotic to my young mind. Fast forward to moving to new Zealand in 2006 and finding them sold in the fruit aisle of the store next to apples!! I was absolutely shocked!
    Great cardinal!
