A bit of chit chat

Isn't Snoopy cute?  Every time I look at him I get a smile on my face and in my heart!  My sister (in-law) got him for me... that pincushion is round.  I have been looking for just the right thing to put it in till it doesn't roll around and this is perfect.  And I get to see it every time I am in my sewing room and a lot of times in between.

I have not worked on the orange leaves in a while.  I forget how many I appliqued when I first started.  But I had more to baste to the background gray fabric and so got those done but have not started applique part yet.

How are you adjusting to the holidays being over?  The past few days have been good for me, though I did spend most of Thursday sleeping.  Did you notice that I had very few words with those pics of Bubbie?  That was cause I just did not want to admit to what I had done.  But might as well admit it;  everyone needs a lazy day ever now and then...I had slept Wednesday night in my chair, got up at 5:30....I cannot remember if I laid down in the bed for a few minutes or if I stayed up and give Roger his meds.  Other than being up a couple times, I slept the day away till sometime after 3:00, and I did not have trouble going to sleep that night.  I even went to bed about midnight, which is way earlier than is normal for me.
**********
I got in my closet yesterday and weeded out a few things, and rearranged some others.  Are you like me and keep clothes till you wear them out?  I hate to admit how old some of my shirts/tops are.  One finally started fraying around the neck...I think it was 9 years old.  What is funny, I don't know if anyone would notice it...the rest of it looks good.  And it is so comfortable...and is cotton.

Then I have a favorite shirt that buttons up the front.  It has a collar that is fraying.  But I cannot bare to part with it...so I will keep it to wear while working in the yard/ just around home.    That leads to the other question...have you noticed how hard it is to find just plain cotton t-shirts  or shirts of any kind?  I keep hoping  that will change.

Well, I hope this has not bored you to tears...I am watching the second episode of Alone In The Wilderness....good night all.

  1. I love the Snoopy cup. So cute and what a good use - putting a pin cushion in it! Holidays are over, house looks a little naked, and tonight I am experiencing those January post-holiday blues, but tomorrow will be better I'm sure. Much to look forward to. Soon it will be time to begin planning summer vacations. Have a great week!

  2. Goodwill has lots of plain cotton t-shirts, and for about $4.00. Yes, until not too long ago I had clothes that I got as a teenager! And bathrobes from maybe 20 years ago or more! I am glad you gave in, and slept. Your body must have really needed it. And I am a believer in listening to our bodies. You could have been coming down with something, and needed to sleep it off. I love the snoopy mug/pinchshion!!!

  3. What a cute idea to put the pin cushion in the Snoopy cup. It looks very cheery.

  4. I love your Snoopy pincushion, it is so bright and cheery! Is that felted wool in the cup? It sure makes a good pincushion.

Tom and I have been sick with a bad cold since Christmas so I am slow getting all the Christmas decorations packed away. I finally got the house decorations and all the tree ornaments packed up but we still have to pack up the tree. The cats are always sad to see the tree go away!

I am just like you about clothes! I have some tops that are a good 10 years old and still look okay for around the house. If something gets noticeably worn out or doesn't fit I will get rid of it or donate it. I need to do what you did and go after my closet.

    Have a good week Rose!

  5. I smiled when I looked at Snoopy, even before reading what you had written.
That was not a lazy day that you had. Your body obviously needed to have some recuperation - you did exactly the right thing in resting. Hopefully you will now feel better able to continue on.
Sometimes I have clothes that appear to be lasting well - and then see a photo of me ten years ago wearing the same item! They just move down the scale, from best wear to casual to home wear, before they finally end up leaving. We must be frugal souls!!

  6. Adorable pin cushion. I've been lazing around the whole week. Not sleeping, just laying down. I have a bad cough & can't rest without coughing. Ix M one that always cleans the closet twice a year. Spring & Fall.

We carers need to be less hard on ourselves about our own need to sleep and recuperate!!! Well done for giving yourself that time. The pin-cup is a great idea. I know what you mean about cotton. My gripe is with my underwear brand: I've been wearing 'Cottontails' for decades, but the last lot I bought when back down under do not at all feel the same. The label may say it, but instinct says otherwise! YAM xx

  8. Hello,

I love the cute Snoopy cup, it is a great idea to hold your pin cushion. I wish I could sleep more, I wake at the slightest sound. I do have a few items of clothing that are old but still look OK. I am wearing them. Happy Monday, wishing you a great day and a happy new week!

  9. You obviously needed the rest (your body) or you wouldn't have slept. Sleep takes care of us for sure and helps heal our bodies.
I love the pin cushion. That is just so cite and colorful.
I have so many clothes that are years old. I wear what I like and I hate to get rid of them. Perhaps you could add a new collar to the shirt you like or just remove the collar entirely - for a new look! LOL
    Have a good day.

  10. I like your cute Snoopy cup. Snoopy is one of my favourite cartoon character. The hot weather here is making me really lazy.

  11. the snoopy cup is perfect for the pin cushion. like it was custom designed for it.. what kind of iron is that sitting by the scissors. odd to me. I can't find cotton nightgowns. when I do they are not my size or shape. the ones I like are all poly or blends and poly is to hot for the deep south... also cotton cost way to much.... since you slept all that time I am thinking your body, mind and soul NEEDED it. I am now wearing things in smaller sizes that I had saved from 20 years ago. when I find something I love, I keep it until is a rag and the 2 sweaters I own are both 20 plus years old.

  12. What a nice gift! I love mugs too. When I receive one as a gift I rarely use it for drinking but put it to better use like you. However I hadn't thought about putting a pin cushion in it! Thanks for the idea!

  13. OMGosh I love Snoopy so much. Snoopy was born the year before me and I have loved him from the moment I first saw him. I keep my clothes forever. I have patched the denim shirts I love to wear. Nic calls them my UNIFORM, lol. I hate to buy new clothes.

  14. Raggedy edges are all the rage now, so hang on to those old favorites. I still wear some jackets that my mom made for me in the 80s and 90s. I love them and will never part with them. I love seeing your oh-so-neat sewing area. I need a small iron like yours.

  15. I have raggedy edges on some of my shirts. I refuse to part with them. It is impossible to buy cotton blouses now. I am wearing out the ones I have at an alarming rate.

  16. I don't usually keep my clothes that long, but I have plenty of other things which I would be wise to dispose. of.

  17. Like the snoopy cup. Good idea for the pin cushion.
I had kind of the same idea with my yarn when I'm knitting - just last night I got a basket the perfect size to put it in!

I'm always glad when the holidays are over and things get back to normal.

  18. LOVE Snoopy - anyway, anytime. Applause to you for being able to sleep that much. I wouldn't be able to pull it off, but I don't see any reason you shouldn't enjoy a quiet day. Love your leaves and your applique skills.

  19. That's a great mug and a pretty applique. We are winding down now after a busy Christmas season. We had a quiet Christmas Day with my son and daughter-in-law but had three lots of company on separate occasions shortly before and afterwards. Our last lot of company left yesterday. All very welcome and enjoyed but I was very tired. I've always said your body's talking to you when I have had days similar to the one you describe. Your body was talking to you Rose, you needed lots of extra rest and I say go for it :) Wishing you a wonderful week :)

  20. You must REALLY have needed to catch up on your sleep!!
The Snoopy cup is perfect for your pincushion and so cheery.
I keep my clothes until they wear out ( or I don't fit into them any more).

  21. Hi, Happy New Year.... I laughed at your comment about cotton t-shirts... George and I have been buying t-shirts when we travel....Amazing how the quality has changed through the years... These days, t-shirts are made out of that thin, clingy material... I don't like tight clothes --so have to buy a size bigger these days to get a comfy t-shirt.... Despise those things!!!!!

    Times --they are a-changing!!!!

    Have a great week.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  22. I do like that snoopy cup.
I think sometimes our bodies do talk to us... and you must have needed to catch up on rest/sleep.

    Take care, my good wishes.

    All the best Jan

  23. Do not feel guilty for resting. Sometimes our bodies and minds are exhausted, weary, and in need of repair. That is what sleep is designed to do.

I, too, wear clothes until they are completely worn out. I don't give many clothes to Goodwill because they are rags when I am finished.
