Lorelei and friend...

I got texts messages the other day...I think I told someone I got a call...but it was text message along with two or three photos.

Look close at the bottom of the window...see that tiny squirrel?  It is a baby...and she was wondering about making friends with it.  I suggested sunflower seeds, and if she had an apple to cut in open.  She wondered why an apple...I told her cause it has a strong scent and that is how I made friends with Mama Squirrel.  But she didn't have an apple.    She ask about a strawberry...I said try it.  so, we texted a minute more and I had not heard any more.

I got a phone call yesterday evening, and there was all this excitement in her voice and she said 'Guess what, Mamaw!'

Well, I knew right away she had had success.

You cannot see it, but she said she could not stop smiling the whole time.  There are two or three babies, and one of them did take the strawberry and went up the tree to eat it.

Just thought I would share this bit of happiness...

Hope you all are having a good weekend.

How wonderful! We have a lot of baby squirrels around here but I've never tried that. I know she is loving it and probably the baby is too!

LOVE that. How tiny!!! I have several squirrels that come up to me and beg for their peanuts. I hand them to them.
So glad she gets to experience such love and sweetness.

How wonderful! She has a kind, gentle, and happy spirit, and the animals know this. Also, the strawberry didn't hurt!

I feel excited for Lorelei too. I too would want to make friends with the squirrels but we rarely get to see them in our area.

I'm pretty that our natural world, is in on this mess, of finding ways to make us feel just that little bit special - be it's the plants or these baby squirrels.
From someone who hasn't ever seen a squirrel, they are not here in New Zealand at all...my knowledge is from story books which have a squirrel in them; or American friends who have issues with bird seed feeders etc...

What a cute story! I have plenty of squirrels, but I don't think that I've ever seen a young one like this!

How wonderful Rose, such sweet photos. I never knew that about the apple. I will have to remember that, and even a strawberry, both of which I don't have at the moment but they will be on the shopping list.

Amazing the squirrel was eating out of her hand like that. The squirrels I come across bolt for it when they see a nearby human. I'll have to take some strawberries when I go out!!

Squirrels are my favourite animals, even though they have annoying habits like breaking into bird feeders.

How sweet! So glad I saw this. That Lorelei is such a sweet girl, no wonder the little squirrel came to her. I hope it stays there. A pet squirrel is so much fun. I love this!
