A bit of this and that...

First, I will show you a block my daughter made...it is made using the paper piecing method.  She bought the pattern from someone on Etsy.

This is her second one...it is to become part of a baby quilt for a friend of hers.  Her friend is planning on grays for the baby room right now.  I would not mind making it in red fox colors.

We went to visit both our daughters this weekend...we had not seen their new homes and they have both been in them for over a month.   First one thing and then another prevented us from going.  At Lorelei's home, they have a bunch of baby squirrels...she has not got to feed them by hand any more.  But I had the most fun watching them.  There were at least 4 and they are all adorable.  Rosie chases their moms and then the mama squirrels tease her.  They get about 3 ft up the tree and flick their tail at her.

We have seen our daughters since all this with Covid 19 started, but there has been so much they had to do and so much going on that we have not really visited much to speak of.  It was just so good to see them in a relaxed situation.

And Jeremy changed my windshield wipers and put in a new battery for me.  I just hate asking him to do stuff like that but he just says it is what he is there for.  And does it as if he is having the best time of his life.  And truthfully, he always likes to keep a car that he is 'working' on...either improving it or he will buy one that has something a little bit wrong with it and he will fix it and drive it a while, and then sell it.  Or he will be helping a buddy do something to their car.  So, I guess this does seem like nothing to him.  But it sure helps me out.

I have two tomato plants...this one is a Big Boy.  As far as I can tell it has 4 tomatoes.  I have a Beef Master plant that does not look right.  I had not been able to find a single tomato on it till this afternoon and it does have at least one.    I did not attempt to take a picture of it.   I just hope some of these develop fully and taste good.  I could eat a dozen tomatoes from the garden if I had them.

Remember that I pulled up all the coneflowers last fall.  I figure I would have a lot come back this year as from year to year they have spread and spread.  Well, I do have about half a dozen plants, but this one is the only one that is even close to having a bloom.

I guess I should hit the publish button and be done with this.  I was going to do this post last night but just simply did not have the energy to do it.

  2. How very nice that you and Roger were able to spend time with the girls for Father's Day and to see their homes finally. Love the pic of Lorelei and Rosie. Those squirrels sound like a lot of entertainment! That quilt block looks so intricate. I love the cone flower pic. Best of luck with the tomatoes. I would love a tomato sandwich!

  3. I know what you mean about asking for things to be done for you, I hate to ask but Tom is unable to do lots of things he used to do now.
My youngest son pumped up the car tyres the other day but we felt like useless beings standing watching him doing it.
That's what comes from always being active and strong in the past, its hard to accept that you can no longer do certain things.

  6. I love the picture of Lorelei. That quilt square is pretty. I would be so confused. I simply cannot piece a quilt. It makes no sense to me. That coneflower picture is beautiful. I finally got a post done. Don't know what's been wrong with me, I just can't get it together any more. :)

  7. That's great that you were able to spend some time with your family! And how nice that Jeremy could help out with the car. Those sure are some good looking tomatoes. You can't beat home grown tomatoes.

  8. I used to love to get "under the hood" of a car and learn how to fix 'em. Now the computers prevent that. Great gardening images. Be on the look-out for me when that tomato ripens!

  10. Glad you got to visit the girls and see their homes. SO nice of Jeremy to help you out. Good son-in-law! My goodness Lorelei looks like an adult!!!!
YAY - tomatoes. I have a few little ones too. My coneflowers are just starting to get buds as well. Don't give up. I have one that is blooming and others that haven't budded.

  11. Yay for the trip to see the two new houses and of course the people that live in them! So glad you got your car fixed for free. Of course I guess you had to buy the parts but at least say labor was free. I love tomatoes especially ones that ripen on the bush and can just pick them and wash them off and eat them yum like an apple. I love the gray colors and the block that your daughter made it will be beautiful.

  12. Hi There, I know you enjoyed catching up with your kids/grand....Glad they live closer to you all now...Have you and Roger thought about moving closer to them????

Lorelei is a young lady now ---and not that precious little one we loved watching grow up on the blog!!!!!!!! Amazing how quickly they change...

I never liked GRAY (as a color) until this past year. It is growing on me. I love your daughter's colors in her quilt piece....PRETTY.

    Take care and stay healthy.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  14. The quilt square looks great but I think reds would be even more striking.
How fortunate to have someone who can do some small things on your car.
It must have been wonderful to visit your daughters and see their new homes and just have a good time catching up on your lives.

  15. What an intricate quilt. I think your idea of reds would look great, as too much grey can be rather dreary.
I'm glad you got to visit your daughters and see their new homes now they are more settled in. I miss my daughter being so far away, but at least we have modern technology to keep us in touch - although it is just not quite the same as personal contact :)
    Take care, stay safe, Mxx

  16. my goodness I just can't imagine a baby surrounded by grey - but on saying that the quilt block looks stunning in those tones. Maybe the new mother will be gifted some nice baby or bright coloured accessories for said tot's room

and so great you could get to check out the family and their homes...

I like you have been kind of independent for so long, "hard to ask for help" - but help from the right kind of person...

  17. That block looks complicated and needs a lot of patience and time to put it together. Its wonderful to be able to spend time with your daughters and getting to visit their new homes too. The squirrel family sounds fun to watch. Happy for you that you have someone who loves his job to help you with the car.

  19. Your daughter’s quilting is very pretty. How lovely you got to see your daughters. Seeing those baby squirrels must have been a treat. I would have loved that. Jeremy seems like a very nice person to be so generous with his time and enjoys helping. Your tomato plant looks great and so does the coneflower. That photo is a work of art. Have a great weekend Rose :)

  20. I'll be glad when the covid crisis is finally over - not for a long time, I fear - and we can all travel around and see our friends and family without all the restrictions. I didn't realise how much I value all the places I used to visit until suddenly I couldn't.

    The coneflower is amazing!

  21. You are lucky to have tomatoes! I have lots of blossoms, but that's it. Still waiting. That quilt reminds me of origami. It's so interesting!

  22. I have grown Beef Master tomatoes before and if I remember correctly, they are huge! They are late tomatoes so it might still be too early for them.
Late tomatoes drive me crazy. I don't like waiting.
