I should have done these before now

Remember this post and this one...well, these photos were from the same farm. I really wonder how the falling down building above was used. The chimney intrigues me....was it their shop to work on things?
These are two views of the same barn...in the one above you can get a glimpse of the house and can tell it is on the same side of the road as the house and huge barn.
And the barn below was straight across the road from the one above. You just know at one time this was a very prosperous place to have all these buildings. One can't help but wonder was it a farm with a big family, or did they have hired hands?
I still long to know the real history of this place. I bet it was an interesting one.

  1. Hi Rose, I keep thinking about you. You have had a lifestyle change BIGTiME ---since you are keeping the baby fulltime these days. I know you love her and love having her with you.. BUT--I also know that it is time-consuming and can wear you out.

Please take care of my friend, Rose....

    Love the barn pictures.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  2. Love these old structures - nice patina on them!

I need to take some really long drives. I've scoured the area and most barns here are unsightly broken down structures.

  3. Old buildings remind me of aging older ladies...some do it gracefully, others just fall apart!

    Lovely.

  5. These photos bring up a flutter of emotions and nostalgia...they're so typical of so many farms I knew as a young man.

I can close my eyes and smell the place...the sweet stink of hot slop, the eye-burning reek of manure in the barn, the air-cleansing scent of fresh hay...

I, too, would like to know the history of this place...at one time it must have been thriving, as you noted.

    It's sad, really.

Lovely photos, Rose! Thanks for the memories!

  6. I'm always wondering about old barns and houses wishing that they could talk. There's just something about them.

  8. I really like the archway on the house - That isn't something you see often there, is it? I bet it was a working farm - I wonder what happened that they left? Places like this make me wonder, too!

  9. Vines on a chimney! In fact, a barn with a chimney? I think that must be rare, at least around here.

I wonder if the bottom barn style has a name.
