A thistle in all its glory

I know that thistles are generally looked on as a weed...I have thought of them as weeds all my life.
They are all prickly and will stick you without a thought....
but just look at these blossoms! Aren't they wonderful? Just so very beautiful.
I have been looking at images at google...I think these are different to the thistles we generally see. I wondered if they were milk thistle but cannot say for sure.
It is getting late and time for me to head to bed...Lorelei will be here in the morning. So I need to get some much needed sleep. If you get time, google thistle and see if you think this might be milk thistle. Or if you know for sure tell me. I also seen this spear thistle, but it didn't have an image of the flower....I didn't have time to do a thorough search.

Good-night for now.

  3. I think thistles are gorgeous and love to take photos of them. I also love the way the Goldfinches and other birds and butterflies flock to them.

  4. I love Canada thistles on somebody else's property. Not too fond of them on mine even though the bumblebees like them a lot as do many butterflies.

  5. They are indeed beautiful purple flowers, and that jaunty tuft of white is kinda cute, too!

  6. How pretty, sometimes weeds provide such pretty blossoms! The *white tuft* reminds me of milkweed, so possibly that would be appropriate for the thistle name! Have a good week Rose, enjoy little Lorelei!

  7. These thistles are very beautiful, Rose...we have a lot of them here in Ocala and I always take photos of them...

We're turning thistles into roses, that's what we're doing!

  8. I became quite familiar with thistles when I was growing up on a small farm. This certainly looks like a milk thistle to me. I'm sorry, but I still don't think they're pretty.

  9. Yes, but they are pretty weeds...in the wild and as long as their thorns don't get you!
