Visitors

The feeding station was busy yesterday....there was a small flock of cowbirds that visited the first half of the day.  Thankfully, they went on their way and left some for the other birds.

They are beautiful in their own way.   But even though there was only about a dozen or maybe 15 of them, they completely monopolized the feeders and the ground underneath.
*************
We had snow off and on all day yesterday, but no accumulation...the ground did not even get covered.  That was sort of amazing with how hard it snowed part of the time.

It was 12º when I got up this morn...looking for a high of 27ºF.  Not very warm in other words.  It is really brisk out there, even with the sunshine.  At least the days are starting to get longer.

I cleaned my sewing machine yesterday...I always clean out all the lint I can fairly often, and always take the throat plate off to clean out what lint is left before I start a new project.  And I oil the machine...got that done and the walking foot put on.

I actually got a little quilting done...should have got a lot more done than I did.  If nothing happens, I hope to get more done this day.

  1. Nice to see the Cowbirds. It means they're planning on heading our way just as soon as it warms up.
Thanks for reminding me to clean my machine. It's something I forget to do until the bobbin case reminds me!

  2. great shots of the cowbirds, i have not seen them before except on TexWisGirl blog... sorry you are still freezing.. hope it warms soon for you. we woke up to 58 and it is 74 now, which to you would be spring time weather.

  3. I have actually only seen cowbirds one time. They may be common around here, but not in my neighborhood. And there are a LOT of cows around here, too. Maybe they are all on the cows!

  4. I need to clean my sewing machine, tho I did have it cleaned not long ago, the minky fabric I'm sure did a job on it. I haven't seen any cowbirds here, but we'd get a lot in Illinois, they would eat my feeders empty if I let them.

  5. I like the brown and black color of the cow birds. I read an article about them and they are a danger to other birds. They lay their eggs in other birds nests and when the eggs hatch the cow bird baby eventually kills the other baby birds. Over a period of time you only have cow birds. :(

  6. Cowbirds sound like the starlings that we get here. They come in groups and scare away all the other birds.

  8. It's not spring here yet either. We had a chilly day.

  9. I don't think I've seen a Cowbird unless they're called something else. We have the pesky Starlings and Grackles that gobble up our bird seed. Nice shots!

I'm going to be brave and get out my sewing machine which I haven't used in a few years. I've gotten the itch to make a couple of things. I hope it still works!

  10. Cowbirds really can be rather piggy, can't they? Congrats on getting your machine ready and actually quilting a bit too!

  11. Fine shots of these cow birds. It's interesting how species of birds inherently know the pecking order.

  12. We've had a few Cowbirds here --but I haven't seen any in a couple of years. I always get them mixed up with Catbirds --which we do have on occasion. The two birds don't look at all alike --but the name confuses me.

Stay warm... It's chilly here too--but no snow. Supposed to rain today.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  13. I think that Cowbirds have a lovely color, but I don't like getting a whole flock of them. Same with Grackles or Starlings. Poor blackbirds aren't liked by anyone much! It has just begun to sleet here. I hope it is brief and goes away quickly! I clean the lint out of my machine, but have no idea where to oil it and it doesn't say in the book that came with it. Maybe it doesn't need oil?
