Ruffles...

Just can't resist posting these ruffled daylilies...
I know I have got to stop posting these...
but just had to do just one more.

***********
For some reason these ruffles, especially the last daylily above reminds me of the full, frilly slips little girls used to wear under their little dresses.

That led to me remembering girls in our high school had to wear dresses....we could not wear pants till our senior year in high school.  I can't imagine that happening at any school today.  Things have changed so much.   Our school cafeteria served lunch, it was either take it or bring your own.  There were no choices to be made...I think only regular milk was served...no choice of what to drink.  It was either milk or water.

I remember getting cornbread every now and then that had the sugar in it.  I wouldn't eat it, but one of my friends thought it was like getting an extra piece of cake and always enjoyed it.

I don't remember many of the foods we had...probably my favorite was their pizza.  And my favorite dessert was the no bake chocolate cookies.  And I still love them today, though I seldom make them.  Not even sure I have made them since the girls moved out.  One of these days Lorelei and I will make some...

Her mom makes them now...in fact her mom has made them for almost as long as I can remember.  She had a friend that lived over on the next street...almost any time they spent much time together, they ended up cooking...and a lot of times they made the no bake cookies.  Sometimes they had to go between their homes to get all the ingredients...

And speaking of cookies, I think I need one more snack before I go to bed....

  1. NO don't stop posting the lilies, they are gorgeous and brighten up Blogland!! I think my favorite is the second that is bright yellow and has stripes, but they are all just out of this world! When I went to school you went to the principal's office and got in big trouble for chewing gum, or wearing culottes. Now you go to the principal's office for shooting everyone, what has HAPPENED??

  2. if i can post hibiscus and night blooming cactus over and over you can do your lilies. they are stunning and look so real i can almost touch them. i do remember crinolines and the fact we could not wear pants to school. i graduated in 1963 and we were not allowed pants in school then. i think that changed in the 70's.

  3. I love your ruffled lilies...very pretty! They do remind one of the old full slips with ruffles. I'm older than you, and I had to wear dresses to class even in college until about my senior year. Our lunch was about the same way as yours in high school, but unlike you, I never had pizza at school. That was about the time that pizza was just beginning to be heard of around these parts. I remember mom buying a Chef Boyadee one that you put together yourself to try...it wasn't very exciting. I didn't really discover pizza until I went away to college. I led a "sheltered" life even in the big city of Indianapolis until I went away to school.

  5. Beautiful ruffle day lilies. Ours have ruffles, too. They came with the house 34 years ago.

And, it wasn't until after I left high school that the girls could wear slacks. Goodness, I am really, really old! ;)

  6. Lovely memories of no-bake cookies, Rose. Funny how the ruffles on daylilies led to talk about cookies. :))

  7. I love the frilly edge Lilies too. They remind me of little girls dresses I used to make for my girls.
We wore uniforms to school. No long pants--ever. We had to wear stockings or socks and the older more experienced girls would run a line up the back of their legs and pretend they had nylons on. My Mother remembers when pant suits were allowed at work, She said finally she could keep her legs warm. LOL

  8. I love the frilly ruffled daylilies, too. I remember having milk to drink at school and later found out that was what made me sick...I'm lactose intolerant!!! I love cookies that the school made with peanut butter and corn flakes and Karo syrup.

  10. I recognize those Daylilies --since we have some of them. Love them too... AND I also love the ruffles....

Remember Krinlins (don't know how to spell it)... It was all of those fancy starched slips/ruffles we wore under full skirts/dresses?????

I never ate in the school lunchroom. We were allowed to leave school --so I would eat at a little restaurant named Carmines. I'd get a chili bun and coke for 25 cents!!!!!

OR---I would take my lunch to school, which I did until I was in high school...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  11. Love the lilies and they do look like ruffles on a little girls dress. I miss the days when little girls were dressed like little girls. We had to wear dresses to school also and they had to be just below the knee. Times sure have changed.

  12. The lilies are gorgeous, Rose! I love the ruffled, frilly ones the best.

I remember well those days when we had to wear dresses or skirts to school! I remember the school lunches and their milk tasted so good to me. I'm not a big milk fan, but on the farm all we got was milk straight from the cow and I didn't like the taste of it!

The no bake chocolate cookies are still one of my son's favorites when he is home. I'll still make them once in a while.

  13. I take the same things over and over too. I really try not to, but it doesn't work out. Don't stop with the lilies. They are wonderful.
