An Eagle day!

We went for a little drive...up to Mansfield, Indiana...to throw our line in the water.  I spotted an eagle in the distance.  I pointed it out to Roger and we both seen it land in the tree.  The tree was across a field, and even with my camera lens extended I did not see the adult eagle on past the juvenile.  But Roger spotted it with his spotting scope.
We went on to Mansfield, which is just a few miles on down the road.  I was casting around, not getting any hits at all.  I thought to myself I best be watching for an eagle...they fly down the creek and fly up in this tree, and if you are not watching...you miss it and never know they are there.

Instead of that happening, I saw one up in the air...not this fellow.  The first one I saw was still too far for my feeble lens but was an adult...I whistled to get Roger's attention...we both headed to the truck and the adult landed in the tree. I could see it...and I thought I saw another one.  But could not be sure.

Roger got out his spotting scope and was looking...and he spotted another adult flying plus the one in the tree...and along in there here came this one flying over us!

Roger thinks we saw 5, well, he saw five if that is indeed the truth   (In all of this I only saw the one adult.)...I myself think it was the same juvenile and parent we saw earlier.  We had just missed seeing the other adult in the first sighting.

You were lucky to get photos. Baldies are regulars at our local dump but so far I haven't been able to get any photos.

that is a lot of Eagles in one spot... i know you were excited. we saw an Osprey on our power line this morning. we were trying to figure out why he was there.. we think he was resting on the way to the pond because he sat there fora bout 5 minutes on one leg. maybe he was cold.

I always enjoy seeing the Eagles. However, hey are much maligned around here, as those involved in bird hunting say the Eagle decimates the Pheasant population.

Lucky you, finding all these eagles! I guess I better start looking around here for some activity. Great shots of them in the tree and flying.

You still got a couple of very good pictures. Roger did very well with the spotting scope.

Seeing an eagle is real exciting for me. There are more sightings around here lately and I'm always on the lookout for them. Nice captures!

Very good, Rose. I love seeing Eagles. You did excellent getting the one flying. I never can find them in the sky with my little camera once they are a-flying. MB

They are so much fun to watch. We haven't this year, but in recent years past, we've gone to a nearby area where there is usually a group of them.

An exciting day for spotting eagles and you did well with your photos. I have thought of investing in a spotting scope. Have a great day :)

It's hard to concentrate on fishing, isn't it, when there are Eagles around!!!! Great photos.

I'm a little shaken tonight. We had a near-miss-head-on car accident this afternoon when a car was coming straight toward us in OUR lane. We swerved and went into the ditch. Luckily, we are fine and no damage to the car --other than being dirty. BUT--we were just lucky that the ditch wasn't steep…. SCARY!

Hugs,
Betsy

lol.....just goes to show that even an eye witness can be mistaken....because apparently ONE of you saw wrong. Who would the more reliable witness be?

Very cool. I haven't seen any eagles since the end of December. Birding has been a bit slow this January because of the December ice storm and extreme cold we had after that - at least that's why I think the birding hasn't been great.
