Time for Willy Nilly Friday 5...

Any time I see this, my heart melts.  It won't be long until our baby celebrates her 6th birthday.  (this is just a little added bonus)

1.  What word would you use to describe the sound of the lids sealing on jars that you have just canned.  I call it a ping...and it is a sound that I love.  It holds a lot of memories for me.  It  produces a feeling of satisfaction.  I often think how much less garbage there would be if everyone canned their own food.  But then, I wonder if we canned all our  own food, would we be consuming more energy than going to the grocery and buying our own food.

2.  We are supposed to get measurable snow starting sometime Saturday night.  I will believe it when I see it.

3.  If I had a tomato fresh from the garden, I could eat every bite of it, even if it was as big as a basketball.  No joke.  I crave fresh tomatoes all winter long.

4.  I have come to a standstill with de-cluttering.  We had a couple different appts this week...and it just got me out of sync somehow or other.  I need to get started again.

5.  I am reading Winds of Skilak...

And for an added bit of randomness, does everyone else have all kinds of things they think will be good to go in the 5 random thoughts...only by the time you sit down to do them, you do well to remember even one of them?

I am linking to Tanya's Willy Nilly Friday 5

  1. Is this Lorelei? I could take pictures of sleeping babies forever! Don't you wish we could sleep like this? Soundly, deeply, and not a care in the world.

  2. Oh yeah, I like this sound too (and when I have in summer fruits or vegetables, I conserve them, like my mother has it do earlier... (of course, it's not enough for the whole year)
    What a lovely photo!
Have a nice weekend with a fresh snow

  4. The bonus is so cute and peaceful!
#1 I can every year. Last canned tomatoes in the chili and peaches for dessert. This sugar free strawberry jam on toast.
    #2 It's snowing now.
    #3 Don't we all.
#4 Clutters can be a way of life.
    #5 I wish that I was a reader.

  5. I can see L in this photo, she has not changed that much, just bigger and older..wow on the 6. seems she was just 3.
the sound of the jar lids to me is a 'snock' ..i heard many of them since mother canned everything we ate. so why is it not called JArred, since no can involved.
i don't do Willy Nilly because my whole blog is willy nilly... which means things pop in my head. but i do write them down or they pop right on down the bunny trail

  7. Oh, what a precious photo of baby Lorelei!

I've not done any canning in quite a while but I did dehydrate some celery recently. I'm sure I wasted more electricity than the price of the celery!

Now you have me craving a home-grown tomato! :D

Yeah, I'll be surprised if we get measurable snow, too, although I just heard we could get as much as 9 inches. It's been so dry, compared to last year.

    Stay warm and snug!

  9. If you haven't already, join our book club by sending Mom an email, and do a book review o Winds of Skilak! I know what you mean about the pop of the sealing lids when you can...very satisfying sound. Yet, it seems nowadays it's almost more expense and work to can your own, though I would definitely say home-canned is much more healthy! And I too want REAL garden-grown ripe tomatoes all winter long! I can't seem to grow them here, either, and that is so distressing to me!
