Life....

I have not had the heart to post, and maybe still shouldn't.  I can do okay posting photos on my other blog and pretending everything is okay.

In reality, my mood swings from one thing to another.  Part of the time, I can go on and be okay, and others I am beside myself with stress.  I cannot seem to let go the worry.

The stress is with things with the hail damage and the repairs that have been done, plus two are still not done.  We did get rain, and look below...

There is a hole in the guttering part of the awning.  When it rains pretty hard, it shoots a stream back on to the  porch.  It has never did that before.  I was so glad to be up when it rained, and could go out and check.  And there is more to this but I don't know how to explain it and could not get pics.

Then, the side of the roof that needed done has been done a while...I do not know why I have not noticed things till last week.  I don't know if it was the way the light hit it or what that drew my attention.

Just look at that roofing around the exhaust from the furnace.  I don't know what you call it when it is not a chimney...  expand the view to get a better look.

It looks like someone has almost put a knee through a space up there.  I have sent these pics to our claims adjuster and also talked to the contractor and someone is coming back out tomorrow.

Oh, I left out the part about the drip-edge.  I don't know who knows what they are and who doesn't.  But it is a metal piece the fits under the shingles at the edge of the roof, and one side fits flat against the fascia board.  Everyone I have ever known always says to extend the shingles out past the edge of the drip-edge, from a half inch to a an inch...with this, the shingles don't quite come to the edge of the drip-edge.

I have been sitting mulling all this over in my mind, and wanted to post, but could not do it and be all bright and cheerful.  It just goes round and round in my head no matter what I am doing.

I would like to get up there and look myself, at least at the edge.  I HAVE to do something with the guttering, cause during this, I noticed one side of the guttering did not have a bit of water coming down the downpout.  So it is clogged for sure.

One of the guys comes tomorrow to talk to me about the roof, and I really don't know how to handle it.  If he tries to smooth it over and leave it like this, I do not know what I will do...

Roger is having a bad day today,   He is in bed today...does not feel good.  He usually just lays in his chair and naps...but went back to bed this morn.  He just got up to get something for a headache...so he is not feeling good at all.  He has been being so shaky lately I did not dare ask him to help with out ladder.  And it is so heavy I cannot handle it by myself.  It was hard for me when I was in my 40's.  Now,  I just cannot do it.  And I would trust Roger's cousin, but he is not in the best of health either.  So it is like I am between a rock and a hard place.

Sorry for such a whiny post...hopefully next one will be better.

  1. I'm sorry things are piling up and causing so much stress. I think I can understand because last winter our roof developed a serious leak. We had Rubbermaid tubs to catch the rain ( which we get in large amounts each winter). My boys would come on the weekends and replace shingles where they THOUGHT the leak was but no matter what was done it leaked, Finally we gave in and had the whole roof redone but the cost was very high. $16,000. I nearly fainted when I was told. But, there's a lot of construction these days and contractors don't have to take on 'small' jobs so we were forced to bite the bullet and have it done. The months when this was all going on were pretty awful. But you also have the stress of your husband being in poor health. I hope you can hang on and that things will get better. Somehow. ((hugs)) GM

  2. Don't apologize for how you feel. You have to share this with someone,so I;'m glad you shared it here. I hope you find someone to help you out and to properly fix things.

  3. Those items were not done right or they wouldn't be like they are now. Do not let them walk all over you. They insurance adjuster and contractor both need to get on the ball and take care of these things.
I am so sorry you are having these problems on top of everything else.

Do not apologize for your feelings. We all have those days and moments. Big hugs and I am sorry for all of this. I hope you get someone honest to come out and take care of this for you.

  4. from these photos it looks like they really did a poor job, I will pray now that the person who comes out will see it and tell you they will fix it. LIFE is hard and gets harder as we age, I am dealing with some LIFE and that is why I have been posting just photos and not much talking. I can't be funny when down in the dumps. we can be in the dumps together, praying now for your spirits to lift, for Roger to feel better, for someone to come along and help you.. love you Rose

  6. Don't feel bad for posting about this. We all go through times that make us feel down and out. I hope they come back and straighten out your roof problems...they should! It is especially hard handling problems like this alone. Hope Roger gets to feeling better soon. Bet Lorelei's sweet smile would help cheer you up. Will be thinking about you.

  7. I think this is what real blog friends are for...to vent to them when we need it and are feeling down. I will be praying about this! You have SO much on you right now! I will be praying and hoping that God sends you an answer tomorrow. Let me know!

  8. I hope you get this resolved soon. Worry sure can drag a person down. It seems to me that the insurance adjuster should have refused payment for the work until everything was right. I keep forgetting to check your photography blog, so went over and got caught up and found the follow button. Also, I found both the Farm Stories on YouTube. Thanks for the tip!

I join the chorus of support and to say that if you cannot tell us, who can you tell??!!! It was blogging and the friends I found here that got me through an entire year of roofing hell in 2017. I know exactly how you feel, yes I do! In my case, I live in a tenement block of six units; three just didn't want to know and the other two would have done it on the cheap and patch scale. It turned out to be an entire roofing replacement and back wall repair due to water damage. The building is over 100 years old and had never had anything major done. I ended up being the driver and mediator between neighbours and nearly had a breakdown.

Two years on, I can say it was worth the pain. The entire building is so much the better for having been cared for. The builder did need chasing to sort some issues such as you have, but that too proved I had more metal in me than water!!! Who knew?

Go gal, put your he-man pants on. Yes You Can! Huggies, YAM xx

  10. Ohhhh, Rose, I'm so sorry you are having to go thru this by yourself...it's not easy and can be so stressful. On top of it all, Roger not doing well. You are in my thoughts...hope today can be a better day.

(I think the metal strip at the eave/edge of the roof is fascia.

  11. Sorry to hear life is dealing you such a rocky hand of cards right now. I hope Roger feels better soon which will help you immensely. But, from one senior woman to another - do not get out the ladder all by yourself. Ladders are for young folks or at least two people so in case one slips there is someone to call 911. But, you do not want to be in a position to call 911. Getting a service person to do a 'home' job is tough these days because of the small number of them, and then they all have large jobs that pay more. We waited three months for a plumber, and have been waiting for almost a year for a window man and a roof cleaner. The day the roof guys come you will need to be prepared with questions and write the answers down because you will be nervous. I also tell them that although I haven't been satisfied, I didn't take to social media to leave negative comments because I'm trying to resolve the issue company to customer and then I can leave a positive comment. There is one thing in this social media crazed society we live in - no company wants a negative comment left by a customer. Good luck.

  12. Oh I am so sorry you are so stressed! It seems like it is always something when you own a house.
I think it is good that you posted and let others know how you feel. Sometimes just saying what is bothering you helps.
I have said a prayer to help with your stress and that someone fixes the roof the way it should be!

  13. Don't feel bad about voicing out your inner feeling. It is okay and good to be able to share what you are struggling with. If I were you, I too will feel the same especially when things just keep piling up and so much need to be done and yet, can't be done immediately. I hope someone who knows the right thing to do with the roof problem will get it done for you. So sorry about Roger not feeling well. Do take care and hopefully things will be better soon.

  14. Good Morning
One question is...who hired this contractor to do the work? If it was the insurance company then you need to ask the adjuster to come to personally see the work. If they have been paid, the insurance company will certainly want to see their shoddy work. Writing your questions down is a good idea.

The contractor should have his own insurance and is libel for any further damage caused by their workers. Don't let it drop and don't be stressed. Be determined to have the job done right.

I understand totally how much Roger's health stresses you. Terry's Afib added yet another layer to his healthcare. Another Doc, more meds, more appointments.

You can post your concerns here. Some of us will give advice. All of us will listen and wish we could do something to ease your mind. Don't keep your concerns bottled up. Then YOU'LL be sick! Message me anytime you want. I always welcome hearing from you.
    Much love
    Carol

  15. You have my sympathies, Rose. Any kind of structural problem on the home front is worrisome. I pray all will be resolved very soon, so you no longer have to be anxious about the roof. xoxo

  16. Sometimes it is better to talk/write about things like this, I do think in some strange way it can help to off-load.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
    My good wishes.

    All the best Jan
