While waiting...

Here it is after 5:00 and they are here doing the guttering...so going to be a while before they are done.  They were here yesterday and today taking care of the roof.  The one sunken down place did not have anything under it.  So they peeled it back and put wood under it.  Also replaced some shingles around the exhaust pipe of the furnace....it looks a lot better but they are not all laying down...I am hoping with heat that they will.  They at least look like that is a possibility.  After the way things have been done, I fear I will never trust anyone again with things like this.  They did come back and fix the drip edge......again, hoping the other shingles lay down good with warmth from the sun.

I made these 4-patches yesterday....the first I had sewn in several days.  I wish I could get back to sewing some every day.

And I have made more of these 'leaves' or whatever you want to call them.  It is about time to cut squares and start to applique.  I did these several days ago over a couple or three nights....

A blogging friend posted a photo of a maple leaf that was completely white....I don't think I have ever seen one completely white.  But my memory is not so good at times.  But when walking out one morn, I notice all kinds of leaves in my yard turned white...we were leaving at the time so I did not take time to photograph them.

About 3 days later, maybe 4, when I did think to go back and look, all I saw were these Tulip Poplar leaves ...but still you can see how white.  I think it is mold/fungus.

That is it for now...I have more to say but too tired to type it.  Is that lazy or what?

I hope you guys are having a good week...

  1. The patches are pretty. Are they for quilts? I have zero sewing skills, and always admire those who do.

  4. You are for sure not lazy, just overwhelmed with stress! I have never seen leaves turn white like this! I think you are right that it is some kind of fungus. The fall leaves you made are gorgeous! We called a gutter person today, as well. Ours is coming lose in places. They said they need to take the nails out and replace them with screws.

  5. Oh I hope that things get properly fixed. It can be so frustrating when it all goes wrong.

  6. Your report on the roof repair is sounding promising. You have made good progress with the blocks and leaves. They look so pretty and perfect! How many times have I pledged to just sew something every day, but..."the best laid plans of mice and men...

what beats me about tradesman with such visible 'skills' on show, is how they think shoddy work is doing themselves any favours, never mind their customers... surely it is the most self-advertised job there is!!!

Love your patchwork - yes, the leaves are definitely carrying some disease. What a shame. YAM xx

  9. Luckily I have not seen any leaves here with that fungus. You are stressing over those roof tiles. I'm pretty sure they will seal. There is plenty of warm and sun down there. Up north, we are having cooler temps but sunny days. Hopefully we will get a frost pretty soon. I'm pretty sure there are fleas in the back yard or something my little Max is allergic to. He is so LOW to the ground who knows what is bothering him. I see no fleas on any of the dogs.
Have a happy and serene day.
    xx, Carol

  10. the white on the leaves must be like what is now on our powderpuff bush leaves, looks just like this. it is diseased but not sure what. mold is a good guess though.. the white comes off on big's white fur or our hands if we touch it.. i love the orange pieces and if you put a head in the middle it would make a beautiful turkey
as for the roof i am angry FOR you... what a mess up they made, i hope it is repaired but think is should not look like that, so sorry you ended up with a company like this one

  12. Glad to hear your work got done with the roof and gutters. It is hard to find workers who do good quality work.
Love the square quilt squares and the 'leaves' too.

  13. Those quilting pieces are so pretty. Always enjoy your quilting. I hope all the work you're having done will come out like you want it. Always frustrating when we have to get things fixed around the house. We are getting ready to replace some flooring because it is so bad, we finally are taking the plunge. The finding who can do it process is a little stressful. Interesting about the leaf. I'm going to have to look around my feet :)

  14. Oh I like your colorful "leaves". They would make a pretty design. Working with repair stuff is never fun. We had a new roof put on our barn last year---looks real good. I hope the shingles lay down around your stove pipe. What did the roofers say about that?
Enjoy the rest of the week. Pretty sunny days for the rest of our week---cold though but that's the way I like it

  17. Those "leaves" could very well be used as turkey feathers...making a beautiful quilted Autumn coverlet.

Hope the repair work is done right this time!!
