Another day...

Call the Midwife has a new season.   We just watched the second one tonight.  I always look forward to the closing lines....

Not all of us will choose what we give up
the things we love are taken
or are never ours at all
Life is defined not by what we let go
but what we let in:
friendship and kind words
Frailty and hope
To be human is to be imperfect
And to accept that is to thrive
No path is always strewn with flowers
But therein lies the power of each fragile, tender bloom.

I am not sure why, but these really got to me.  Maybe because I know her character...not sure if the words would have the same effect if I just read them and did not associate them with her and the others. It is not that the camera is on her as she says them...she is speaking in the background as the camera shows glimpses of the lives of the midwives, etc.

We have had two glorious days of sun...I have sat on the porch and read some both days.  I am currently reading:

Trials of the Earth:  The Story of a Pioneer Woman by Mary Hamilton.  I have really been enjoying it and dread to see it end.

I have this little quilt pinbasted and ready to quilt...and got my sewing table down in the basement cleared off.  It was full of stuff from when they guy worked on our furnace.  I had to move stuff out of his way and had not put it back in its place.

The tornado warning was till 2:00 a.m. but that has been cancelled.  Maybe they have removed it.  I think we came about as close to having one as we could come without it actually being one.  Stuff was flying from everywhere...I seen someone's big umbrella go down the alley.  It started to take our grill.  I saw trash flying. There was a tiny bit of hail here, but not much. The wind was terrible.  It sounded like a train going over our house.

That's about it for this post...stay safe everyone.

  1. Rose, I so love the quilt! The book you are reading sounds like one I would enjoy. Your recommendations have always proven to be good ones. The tornado got way to close!

  2. We had this same stormy weather this morning, and are to have it again in the morning. Lots of lightening and hail as well. Quite a few lost their power. We LOVE Midwife and have never missed an episode!! And one of our favorite things about it are those voice overs at the beginning and end. But we had no IDEA it is Monica Joan!! Really? how did you know that?

  3. Beautiful closing lines. I am not reading much these days. I like your quilt very much. We are having a mixture of sun and thunderstorm.

that little speech is definitely affecting - I had cause to reflect as I read the words, for this week has been a challenge with managing dad and his deep neediness (over and above his actual substantial needs); 18 hour days for weeks on end tends to shorten one's fuse and autopilot kicks in.

    Lovely quilt... YAM xx

Cute little quilt. It sure got nasty last night - back thank goodness no damage here. That was the scariest I have seen it for a long time.

  10. My goodness, I would have been terrified with that tornado warning and the wind whipping things up like that. I am glad you are both safe.
I have never watched Call The Midwife, but found those words very powerful and full of meaning. Thank-you for sharing them :) Mxx

  11. I have a special place in my heart for Sister Monica Joan. I find it hard to believe she's not a real nun and 'just' an actress.

  12. Tornados are so frightening! I am thankful you are okay. I have lived in a tornado belt all my life and I understand well how frightening they can be. I've been hoping we all have a mild season this year as that is the last thing we need on top of everything else!

I just love that baby quilt! It is so cute! That will be a lucky baby to receive that quilt. Be safe!

  16. You know, I've always wondered if that voice was supposed to be Sister Monica Joan but didn't know for sure. Now that you mention it, I do think it is her.
