Just a bit of this and that...

These are fabric scraps my daughter gave me...and some are so pretty, I want to wait and find something special to use them in.  They are from a line of Tula Pink fabrics.  There are some really fun fabrics if you care to scroll down through the link and look.
***********

I don't know how many of you use Instagram.  I joined mainly because a friend of mine completely stopped blogging and she told me two or three times I should join.  And I did, and I really enjoy it.  But I got away from it for a while and not real sure why.  I had not even been 'looking' hardly at all.  It is easy, cause for the most part people just click the heart symbol that they like a pic and go on.

However, I have not developed any 'friendships' like I have with blogging.  But I have started posting a pic here and there again, and last night I was thinking I had not seen any photos from a couple guys.  One a long time blogging friend, but not someone I emailed back and forth with.  Then the other was someone I found on Instagram.  And I LOVED his photos...I thought I haven't seen a single pic of his in ages and ages..and the thing was I could not remember his instagram name....and could only remember his first 'real' name.

So started going through my list of followers and there he was...I clicked PrairieEyes and took me to his page and it said

In Memory Of....oh, I cannot tell you how hard that hit.  And I did not really know him at all.  So, googled his name....

He had died doing what he loved...photographing rural Saskatchewan and Montana...maybe other rural areas...I am not sure just where all he photographed. He posted pictures of old barns, houses, churches, grain elevators, etc....I don't know if he ever posted a picture that I didn't like, and most of them I truly loved.  There was just something about them  He had stepped on a loose planks and fell in a well...and he was not found till the next day when a rescue mission found his vehicle...and found him.

So that led me to thinking of EG Camera Girl...I will always miss her...and there are two or three others that just stopped posting and I always wonder what happened.

I know this is not a bright and cheerful post...but just had to talk about it a bit.

I hope you all are going to have a great weekend...

  1. The scraps are my colors so if you want to make a giant size dual king size quilt for my bed out of those colors I'll be glad to accept it. I'm glad you mentioned easy camera girl I really miss her she did take such beautiful photographs and she also died while out taking photographs. What a sad sad story of your Instagram friend! I'm trying to remember the other bloggers I know of that died there are two more and I can't think of their names one was something about a cottage and she lived in California but I can't remember her name. I could probably find it if I had to. It does make me wonder how many of the ones who have disappeared from blog land are still alive. I have no one that would post if anything happened to me because Bob doesn't even know how to turn the computer on.

  2. Hello,

I like the fabric and all the colors. I think of EG Camera Girl often, I have wished her a happy birthday every year I see her birthday listed on facebook. I will have to check our Prairie Eyes, is it a blog?

    Enjoy your day, happy weekend!

  3. I can remember over these last 12 years finding out a blog friend passed away and how hard it hit me.(even if they are not emailing, close friends). Those fabrics are so pretty. Love the colors.

  4. I know the feeling. Several of the people I followed stopped posting. Some were sick and returned, changed due to cancer, stroke, etc. Others died. I still miss them but remember them fondly.

  5. I've just finished reading your recent posts and enjoyed them very much. Liked that video of the dogs with the kitten. So cute. I too have a thing about cutting into good fabric. I have a couple of fat quarters bundles that have been with me a while as I wait for just the right project to justify cutting them. I am happier working with scraps it seems.
I am sorry about your experience with missing folks you have followed and finding the startling news that one has passed away. A similar thing happened to me several times now. A blogger I loved died and I didn't know what had happened till her daughter wrote a post to inform everyone. I still miss her because she posted old fashioned recipes that I loved reading. Another true follower of my blog almost from the beginning and a person who commented often to the point where we emailed back and forth all of a sudden stopped. I have tried connecting many times to no avail. I still think about her, hope she is alright and would love to hear from her still. These online friendships are real in their own unique way.

  6. It is amazing what good friends we make on line. I have lost some over the years and it really hit hard. I am so sorry for the loss of your friends.

  8. A wonderful talent was lost. I think Bloggers need to talk about these things, just one reason is so we appreciate each other while we can! One thing that drives me nuts is when someone totally stops blogging, and never says goodbye or WHY. We don't know if they are dead or what. I wish people would not do that.

  9. That is really sad and I do know the feeling even though you never met him personally. You get to know a special side of people through social media, I guess the creative side with a personal touch.

I like Instagram too in addition to blogs. Instagram is a faster way to have contact and enjoy what others are doing and sharing. With blogs I can easily spend hours and I think I get to know people better.

  10. Oh that is so sad. It would have hit me hard too. Looking at his work, I can see why you loved his photography so much. All those pictures are beautiful. How sad, and what a terrible accident that was. Can't wait to see what you make from the pretty fabrics. I was going to join Instagram, just to keep up with Deb from Just Cats but could never figure it out. I'm not much on computers.

  11. I remember E.G. Camera Girl. It is sad when one of these online friends passes away. Even though we have never met, we do develop a friendship. i am on Instagram, and I agree you don't connect with people the same way as on blogger or even Facebook .

  12. That is so sad. I have a few blogger friends who have died over the years.
I'm not on instagram and though I do have a FB account hardly ever go there. I enjoy blogging so much more and besides I just don't have time to do it all.

    The material is very pretty.

  13. I am a very visual person and whenever you post your fabrics I always love to see them, not just for the colors but also for the designs. So thank you for that. I started using Instagram and can’t remember why I joined. Probably because I stumbled on it one day and loved all the photos people shared. Then I realized other bloggers used them and started following them. I looked up PrairieEyes and so saddened that he had passed away, and in such an awful accident. His Instagram photos are an amazing legacy. Just goes to show that the blogging community is like a family, and we can get as close to some as we do to our own family and friends whom we see all the time. Thank you for sharing this Rose, a very sweet acknowledgement of PrairieEyes and EG Camera Girl.

  14. There are several blogs I really enjoyed and the person just doesn't blog anymore. It makes me sad.

I do Instagram and I like it a lot, but it's not the same as blogging. I think there is more opportunity to really get to KNOW someone via their blogs. Instagram is a bit more "sanitized" in that people usually only show the good photos, not real life.

  15. What a sad ending to Prairie Eyes. I'm not on Instagram but I did go look at the link you gave and I agree about his photos...they are wonderful. I have a couple of books published with similar pictures and I checked to see if any of those were by that name and they were not.
I have had bloggers disappear never to be heard from again and I always wonder what happened. Sad.

  16. the coloured scraps will find a way to your hands/machine...just when you need them, so don't stash them too far away.

I've a blog or two - this one for art/making mostly - another one a hodge podge on w/press. A personal f/b page and an artists' f/b page. Somehow I managed to add an Instagram acct as well

  18. Losing an online friend is sad. Even if a fellow blogger & never met in person, the loss is still real.

    1. Ps...I looked up Tye Carnelli on Google & there are many, many pages to read about him (including his obituary) and his passion for photography.

  19. Those are beautiful fabric scraps. I stopped patchwork craft because I run out of free scrap supply. I have an Instagram account but haven't been posting anything for a long time. So sad to lose online friends even though we may not know them personally. Have a beautiful weekend.
