Missing opportunities

Though there is a neighborhood Red-tailed hawk and either a Cooper's Hawk or Sharp-shinned hawk we see, they are always in flight.  I miss being where I am in traffic slow enough for me to take photos of ones on power lines.

*******

Well, I found out that most of you don't sleep through the night either so I don't feel like the lone ranger.  Last night was another where I lay awake a long time.  I would take a Tylenol PM or something, but things like that knock me out and I am worse the next day than I would be with no sleep.

I am still reading Bring Me Wild Roses: An Alaskan Odyssey and still enjoying it.  I just don't read near as much as I used to. I am really enjoying it.  I would have had more read if it would have been warm enough to sit out and enjoy reading.  I put on this 'jacket' I have today and set out and read a bit.  Then Copper wanted to come inside.

That is about it for tonight...I almost forgot to post.

  1. Hawks always look stern and scary to me. Must be the way their eyes seem to bore right into you.
I don''t read as much as I used to either. For one thing I read more slowly so a book that used to take 2 or 3 days to finish now takes me a week :(

  2. Nice picture of the hawk. I don't like taking anything to help me sleep. Like you it makes me feel worse the next morning

  3. we are sweltering and you are wearing a jacket.. wow. all of our birds, bees, butterlfies are gone the past 4 weeks, have not seen any and only one squirrel since Debby did her damage. I wish she had damaged the coons, like drowned them.
we are having violent and lots of rain storms every day, 4 inches yesterday, the ground is so wet, it is flooding places that don't flood. and walking Beau is a challenge, we got soaked yesterday, it is the lightning not the water

  4. Great capture of the hawk! The Tylenol PM does not work for me.
The book sounds interesting. Take care, have a great weekend.

  5. It’s frustrating when the perfect photo opportunity seems just out of reach, especially with those elusive hawks always on the wing. I can relate to missing out on moments like that, where timing and location just don't align.

On the bright side, it's good to hear that you're enjoying *Bring Me Wild Roses: An Alaskan Odyssey*. Reading in the warmth of the sun sounds ideal, though it’s nice that you managed to squeeze in some outdoor reading despite the chill. And it’s comforting to know that many of us share those sleepless nights. Sometimes, just knowing you're not alone can make a difference.

I invite you to read my new blog post and let me know what you think: https://www.melodyjacob.com/2024/08/health-risks-drinking-alcohol-on-plane.html

  6. It is interesting that so many of us have wakeful nights - I wonder if age has anything to do with it? Have a great day, Rose. Mxx
