I just love watching the color change.

Nothing exciting today. And that can be very good. Though there are places I would love to go, I try to be thankful I can do what needs to be done. All I have to do is think back to when I fell in 2018 and it puts things into perspective.
I have had a couple or three days where I did not touch my binding. One day I was just too tired to even wiggle by the time I sat down. One day I was upstairs for something and had to sit and wait just a few minutes so thought I would sew scraps together. My foot pedal would not work. (It is basically the gas pedal of a sewing maching) I picked it up from the floor and noticed the wire to the thread cutter had spots where the wire was bare. Just a couple tiny ones.
So on one of my trips to walmart I got electricians tape and yesterday was the first chance I got to go wrap the bare spots. There were only two little ones. And it is not like the electricity runs through it all the time. The thread cutter is beside the pressure foot..but has separate wires.
The pressure foot would work for a couple inches then stop...and next time I pressed did not work. I tried looking on line to find it and what to do for it. I never could find my exact foot...but found a place that said to take foot pedals apart and clean if they stopped working. Well, I worked and worked and finally got it till I could sort of see inside, and I used Qtips to wipe as much dust as I could. I could see nothing that looked wrong. But this was not like I had it all the way apart. It was opened up at one end about an inch or so but still hinged at the back end.
I cleaned as good as I could and then had to work at getting it back together...and how it slipped back into place is more than I know but it did, and I took it upstairs and it seems to be working fine.
I looked and looked yesterday trying to find an alternative to it, but no luck. I did find two places that had had one at one time. Maybe it will be fine from now on...but I sure would like to find a back up pressure foot.
That is it for tonight...
Gosh, you are amazing! How on earth you fixed this, I would never have been able to do it.
ReplyDeletePretty leaves. You are a Mrs Fix it!!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I wonder how interchangeable the foot pedals/pressure foots are? Might be worth looking for a used cheap machine just for the pedal. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteGoof for you getting that working again. I love it when I'm able to fix something by myself.
ReplyDeleteWell done! To be able to fix the issue yourself is wonderful. I can understand your apprehension about it. You got it working though!
