Turtle log

I took this the other day when up at the Heron Viewing station...this is the most I have ever seen on one log up there.

I have made a start at the quilting of the quilt shown here.  I am just doing straight lines so put my walking foot on and have a good start on it.  I am anxious to get the quilting done till I can put the binding on.  Some people do  not like doing the binding but I do.  The bind is the part that goes around the edge of the quilt...I sew it down on one side with the sewing machine, then flip it to the back and sew it down by hand.  the purpose is to enclose the raw edges of the quilt.  And I love the sewing by hand part.

I have also been able to wash clothes and hang them outside...love that....and am loving sitting on the front porch of the morn and having coffee.  It is beginning to sink in that spring is here for real.

  1. I think the binding is what makes it look handmade. The turtles are all having a party!

  2. That's a lot of turtles! How cool!
My MIL used to make all her quilts by hand! The patience! That is one thing I lack! HA!

  5. What a cool shot Rose. I wanted to hang towels out on the line today but it looks like rain. I may have to pull the pants off the line if it does.

  6. That is an amazing number of turtles in one place.
Isn't spring nice. It seemed so late in arriving here this year.

  10. They almost look like gigantic cockroaches on that log. Wish I could sit and have coffee with you on your porch and help you hang out the laundry. I love doing that!

  12. That's a great shot of the turtles! I love them and recently went to a Turtle 911 class to find out what to do if you encounter a turtle that needs help. Great info! Personally, I always like the act of binding the quilt. It obviously makes the quilt look finished, but it is also satisfying to get to that point in a long project. And I always handquilt though I haven't done it for years now. I have some quilt tops done that need to be finished, but my machine is on the fritz and I haven't gotten around to getting it fixed. My bad!

  13. Love the turtles! Hope the quilting goes well. I'm trying to put a back together for my blue and white quilt and just hate wrestling around such big pieces of fabric. Can't wait to pass it on to the quilter and have it gone. You are braver than me to quilt your own on the machine. I wish I was a hand quilter. I have great respect for the beautiful work of hand quilters and the time it takes.

  14. Ditto. I know I read this post as well. I must have gotten distracted that day. Shocking.
