I haven't told her...

I have not told Lorelei that the local farm stores have their chicks...she wants one so bad every time she sees them.  I know we will end up taking her to see them if we get to keep her for spring break though so am only putting it off...I am hoping by then we will be having warm weather.

Right now it is snowing and the ground is white.  And it is cold.  I don't know if we will be going to Terre Haute for Roger's shot.  It is funny how our perspective of things change as we get older and when we have serious health issues happen.  Before, we would not have let a little skim of snow slow us down, nor even a mess of snow if I wanted to go take pics.  But now, I just want to avoid anything that could be the least bit dangerous.

Do you ever get to thinking about the funny things that your kids or grandkids do or say that can always make you laugh.  Actually I have Lorelei and her cousin Jackson that can always bring a smile to my face...

One from Lorelei is that one day a few years ago I walked in to find her scribbling on the back of a dining room chair with a crayon.  I said "Lorelei, please don't mark on Mamaw's furniture."  Her reply was, "I'm not, this is mine...see, it says so right there!" and she pointed to where she had been scribbling.  Implying that it had her name on it.

Now from her cousin Jackson, the one that always pops in my mind is when he was young, maybe along about 2-3 years old and his grandma was still working, he had to call her and talk to her.  He got to telling her who he loved..."I love Mommy....I love Daddy...I love Papaw....and"....and I am sure we would all expect him to say and I LOVE YOu....but instead he says, "And I love Bacon!"  He was saying it to tease...which makes it all the more funny.

Okay, your turn...tell a funny story from your kids or grandkids in the comment...I would love to hear them!

  1. We were in Big R last week. We could not resist looking at chicks and ducks. They are so danged cute. I remember when Laurie was about 13 and bought her best friend Justy a chick for Easter. It was only about 5 minutes before Justy's father called. I could here him yelling even though I sat 5 feet away from it "Laurie, you get down here and take this chick back!!!"

There are so many things the kids did or said that we remember. Funny how little things bring the memory back.

I know exactly what you mean about staying in when we get a little snow. When I met Terry he had a 69 Chevelle and used to do donuts in the road.

  2. Hi, Kids can say the darndest things.... Remember that show?

I hear you about wanting to stay FAR away from danger or trouble these days... We do too...

Hope you get to see that cutie pie during her Spring Break..

I don't have a kid's joke for you --but here's one to make you smile:
"A priest was invited to attend a house party. Naturally, he was properly dressed and wearing his priest's collar.

A little boy kept staring at him the entire evening. Finally, the priest asked the little boy what he was staring at. The little boy pointed to the priest's neck.

When the priest finally realized what the boy was pointing at, he asked him, "Do you know why I am wearing that?"

The boy nodded his head yes, and replied, "It kills fleas and ticks for up to three months."

    Ha Ha Ha
    Hugs,

  5. We were watching Nat Geo about some animal and their instincts. My son, about 4 said "I know what stinks...monkeys stink".

Hope soon the snow disappears. That's why we moved south...no snow.

  7. Those are cute stories. Kids can really lift our spirits. I would love to see the baby chicks too! I am like you. I don't want to get out when the roads are slick, or even when it's dark now.

  9. What an adorable picture!! It is snowing here, and the National Guard are here. Our state has been called an emergency. When Anne Marie was little, we were in the car. And Phil was muttering to himself. She asked what he was doing. He said "Grandpa is just talking to himself". And she replied "If you talk at yourself, you won't get an answer"

  13. We were at the feed store yesterday and the baby chicks are in and of course we had to check them out and Bob said do we NEED to get some. I said no but they sure are cute and if our chickens don't start laying again we might just might!
Funny stories, golly, the only one I can think of is when Kylee was about 4 maybe and we were in the check out line at the grocery store and she said could I get her some lip gloss and I said you have some already and she piped up real loud--oh I don't have it anymore my Mom used it on her herpes---You could hear a pin drop---I said hush and she shouted it out again and then everyone laughed right out loud. Her Mother had a cold sore on her lip----I hope!

  14. Funny and cute picture of sweet Lorelei. And her cousin teasing you, adorable. I had a tease in my son going as far back as when he was first starting to talk. The first word out of his mouth was dog. We used to visit a friend who had a beautiful big fluffy white dog. He next learned how to say Dada and I would try to tea him how to say Mama. I swear that baby boy had a twinkle in his eye when he kept saying Dada, because I would say no, I am Mama. He would squeal with delight and say Dada. He learned early :)

We had two inches of snow, not so bad. It's sunny now so hopefully no more. I know what you mean about not wanting to go out in it. Our perspectives do change as we get older.

  15. A few years ago I was going outside in bitter cold, snowy weather and getting "the picture". This year and last I find myself taking snowy scene pictures from inside the warmth of my house!

  16. What a fun photo of Lorelei! I must confess that I'd love to have a few chooks too. Yes, they'd be super cute babies, but it would be so cool to have them lay fresh eggs, and I love to see them out pecking free range. Friends who keep hens tell me that they are such big personalities. My son is sadly allergic to egg, but he's fascinated by everything to do with eggs - from the chicken to the chook to the egg. Perhaps it's a case of the "forbidden fruit" syndrome.
