I'm still stitching....

I don't know if I will ever have enough of these to make much of anything, but the process of making them has been fun...

And the pile is growing bigger...

I have lost count of how many there are.  But over 50 for sure.

And I made these from scraps...

One of my daughter's friends, well, she is my friend, too...sent me a link to making these masks.  She is a nurse at a hospital in Indy and said they could use some.  I only had one package of the elastic so could only make these 7.  I have ordered elastic, but it says it will be up in May before it comes.  But we shall see.  I have to go to Walmart to pick up a prescription and I am going to check while there.

See that red fabric with the cars, etc?  A quilt shop I go to has a plastic bin they throw their scraps in.  I am assuming from the classes they teach.  And one can fill up a gallon ziploc bag and buy it for $5.  You never know what will be in the bin.  You choose what you want.  They even encourage me to pour it out on the counter if they are not busy.  There is a second quilt shop I go to that has a big wire basket with scraps, not quite as cheap as the other place.

Anyway, I got that piece of car fabric, not having any idea what I would do with it,  But it was such a nice size for a scrap that I got it.  There is still enough of it to make at least two more masks.  I figure a guy might like one like that. The very top one with the gold vine/leaves is a fabric I made pjs with, all the rest used for these are from those scraps I buy.  The mask is reversible?--not sure what the word is.  Each one takes two 6 inch by 9 inch pieces of fabric...so either side can go out.  And I use two different fabrics on each one.

While I was picking out fabrics for these, I found two scraps of orange that I will use for leaves...and also found a scrap of orange fabric I used in a dress for Lorelei.  I was so happy to find it...I had been meaning to look for it but kept forgetting.
************
I am still waiting on fabric to finish my other project...the fabric is supposed to be here Saturday.  Hopefully when it comes I can get busy with that.

I hope all of you are okay while we stay home.   The staying home does not bother me too bad...though I would dearly love to get out for a slow, rambling drive.  For the most part, I have really enjoyed not getting up and getting ready to leave ever morn.

Normally, I try to find a little something funny to post...but today I leave you with a 7 yr. old...

Hope you enjoyed it...I hate to think what I would have sounded like at that age, not that it isn't even worse now.

  2. The scrappy pieces are so pretty.

I'm not bothered by staying home either. But, we did go out to the farm for a bit today to get bread, fruit and a treat for after dinner.

I feel like when we go to the farm we get essentials, but aren't in a crowd like at the supermarket.

  4. The child has quite a voice.

How great that you can make some masks for your friend. I cannot imagine the medical staff not having proper materials during this crisis. I pray your friend stays healthy throughout this ordeal.

  7. Looks like you are keeping busy. I think you should go for the drive...as long as you stay in the car you should be good. I've thought about doing that here but the weather is yucky and snowy. Take care.

  8. Good for you for making the masks! I'm sure they will also cheer up some patients that see them.

Do you have enough of your leaf squares to make a throw size quilt? You can always add borders. Of course as long as you enjoy making them and still have fabric you never know how many you will end up with!

    Take care!

  9. The masks are very pretty. I hope all the front liners taking care of the sick have enough of safety masks and protective coverings to wear. I don't mind staying home but I would love to go out for a walk or a drive. We can still do that but only for short distance to get our essentials. Stay safe and healthy.

  14. I'm on the fence with staying at home, full on. New Zealand just went into full lockdown except for essential services and solitary outings in your own neighbourhood 9hours ago (midnight/Wed), it's now Thursday.

I'm not restricted in getting food in now, but I was earlier in the week, so I'm taking that as "must be safe as possible" as I fell into Level 2 with various health issues. I've enough food on hand, and have helpers if necessary.

What I can't do and I used to do was if I needed anything between online grocery shopping or something didn't come "out of stock" was pop down locally and pick it up. And being home alone I would go out and about to stitch group when necessary. All group activities are cancelled...possibly one month.

I do have oodles are "making" supplies but I'm not concentrating properly, nor on the my home type exercise. But I've made a pact with myself that I have a schedule working by Sunday :-)

Love your leaves, and 50 seems like you could make something large and extraordinary. I guess if you felt you couldn't - you could select some other colour/s and make solid one colour square (?block)

  15. Hope you find something to make out of all the quilt blocks. My daughter has been making masks too and hers are made from pretty scraps, just like yours. She puts a little split in the back of the mask to hold tissue or paper towel that can be changed daily. Hope the need for all these masks is over soon. It's scary.

  16. What a wonderful idea. Hope you can find elastic. It's so hard to believe that in a country such as ours there should be a shortage of masks and gloves. I guess it's one of the many things I've tended to take for granted.

  17. You go girl! A bunch of ladies here in our city are making these masks too.

  18. thank you for the video. A little girl with a clear voice. Peaceful singing and wonderful.

I saw someone make masks using those big pony tail elastics. I was thinking about you and wondering how Roger is doing having to stay in for breakfast. Shelter in Place has not effected us too much. It would be easier to take if we could just have a few sunny warm days.
    xx, Carol
