Grouch

We headed down to Nashville, Indiana day before yesterday. We just wanted to get out and see something else for a change. I wanted to go for one reason, but didn't want to because on the drive down there, there is just no opportunity to stop and take pictures. It is a fairly busy road with no place to pull over.

So, we were past Terre Haute, but not to Spencer, and came to a major 4-way stop....I asked Roger did he mind taking a different route...so we head south still on a major road for a ways. Then we started through the country. Though I still didn't take a lot of photos, we sure seen some beautiful places. Places I want to go back to, preferably in the fall...I think the ridges and rolling hills would really be beautiful.

However, I seen this sign...it isn't beautiful or anything. I have no idea what it means, but I thought it funny....and would love to know the story behind it.

We had little Miss Busy Body with us all day yesterday...when she is here she just stays busy. When we got her in the house, we could not get her out of the car seat quick enough to please her....she was straining at the straps. I told her mom, when she is standing by something such as an end table or whatever...if you watch her feet, one of them is constantly feeling for something to climb up on. I bet she will be able to climb trees by the age of two...well, maybe not that young. But she will want to.

  1. Glad Miss Monkey Tail wasn't grouchy, Rose!!!!! I remember when my youngest could climb out of his baby bed when he was about a year old. He drove me insane--trying to keep him down!!!

Strange sign... Wonder if there was a new town named Coal City--which began and ended in two years??? They would make people grouchy I guess.......?????

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  3. Betsy, no, Coal City has been around as long as I can remember. I wondered if it was something to do with high school sports, but I really haven't a clue.

  4. The sign must have some meaning to someone; can't imagine what, though.

Re: word verification - I don't know how these clowns chose blogs to invade. We went for a long time without much of a problem...but now it's constant!

The sign is strange. Let us know if you ever find out what it means.

  6. A sports reference makes sense or maybe some kind of voting referendum.
Wish it would stop snowing here long enough to really get out for a day. We have about five new inches of snow.

  7. I put it into the Google machine and I got a result, but it isn't very illuminating. It is perhaps maybe even more perplexing: "There is a festival every year in August and 'The Old Grouch' of the town is announced after donations are collected throughout the county."

  8. I'd like to know the story of that sign, too. How funny! Just think how she will keep you in shape as you chase her around :-)

  9. Signs like that always make me scratch my head. Looks like a high school sports...but "Grouchy"...maybe they didn't win!

Wait 'til Spring arrives, Lorelei will want to live outside.

  10. A fine sign and worth stopping for a shot. I got the same information as A Piece of News. Sounds like you might like to visit Coal City with the annual festival is occurring -They use the old train depot building during the festival as a way of showcasing local talent such as photography, quilting, or baking.

I wonder id Lorelei is going to be an athlete or dancer. It'll be interesting to see.

  13. Hi Rose,

Regarding the "grouch" sign, I did a little searching on Google and found this from 1999:

Scroll down to Coal City Festival (third city listed). Sounds like it is a fun time.
