Men at work....

Yes, men at work, not the group, but actually men giving this barn a face lift. When they finish, it is going to look fantastic...but has it lost something in covering the wood? I understand why they do it...yet I hate seeing it done. I am just glad I was not required to do the roofing...it would not have gotten done.
Notice the angled cuts...whoever is doing them is doing an expert job! And the pieces are so wide they were not being done with a chop saw. But maybe they made a jig...I know in doing some things that have to be done over and over, my husband has made his own jig, or tool, to get the cuts and/or measurements the same.

Maybe in a week or two, I can go back up through there and take a photo of the finished barn. I plan to post another photo from this farm on Time Stand Still.

  1. Nice to see a farm that's working - I know how hard it is for most farming families.

  2. It's GREAT to see a barn being renovated, actually. I like the metal roofs, which are said to last at least 50 years. Yes, I DO like the wooden siding better, but a lot of those are tumbling here. At least this barn has a good future!

  3. Looks like one of those metal roofs? Such a bright color! I'm beginning to see those on houses where I live. The barn will look great when done, but I love the weathered look of an old wooded barn.

  5. Metal roofs and coverings may be practical and will last indefinitely, but it doesn't have the character the old wood surfaces had. I'd like to see the completed barn shots if you get to go back.

  6. The barn will look shiny and bright once they're finished, but I think there is something special about a wooden barn.

  7. I hope they put the farm name and date back up on the barn.

  9. Hi rose, I agree.... I love the red roof on the barn--but not SIDING.... Barns are meant to be made out of wood. Oh Well--what do I know??? It is pretty though.

  10. This is a hopeful sign in the days of withering family farms! I guess a barn is like a house - some forms of siding last much longer and are much easier to care for than wood...doesn't look the same, though, as you suggest.

  13. I like to see it truly renovated - keeping the wood. But, I do know this will last a lot longer and it appears they are at least keeping the original intregrity of the barn which is nice.
Would love to see it completed.

  15. It won't be the same in my opinion but it's nice that it's being taken care of.
